Free NBA Picks Wednesday 1/20/2021 and Opening Line Report
The NBA slate is loaded for Wednesday, January 20, with many West Coast games that have plenty of appeal. We’re also going to see Miami and Toronto match up in a game where both teams have losing records around 15 games into the season. Nobody could’ve called that before the season began. Here are the early leans for some of Wednesday’s games.
Suns vs Rockets 1/20/20 (+6, TBD)
The Rockets have moved on from James Harden and now have Victor Oladipo running the show. The Rockets have been without John Wall and Danuel House as of late, so make sure to check the status of some of these players before placing a bet before the game. The Rockets have lost four of their last five games, but Oladipo adds some interesting traits to this team in the scoring category. Christian Wood has also stepped up as a potential double-double threat on a nightly basis. Still, this team isn’t going anywhere as they’ve allowed 112.7 points per game on defense. The Suns have lost their last two games but have the better defense and should be able to do enough offensively behind Devin Booker, who has struggled recently.
Key trends: The Rockets are 2-7 ATS (-1.94 ppg) since Sep 02, 2020 at home.
Early lean: Suns, Under
Heat vs Raptors 1/20/21 (TBD, TBD)
When this game was scheduled, nobody expected both teams to have losing records. The Heat are 5-7, while the Raptors are 5-8 to start the season thanks to some very poor defense and offense that just hasn’t done enough on both sides. The reality is that the Raptors have struggled at home (or as the home team) against the spread. Sure, they’ve won three straight at home, but they couldn’t cover either game against the Hornets, winning both games by just three points. The Heat are coming off a win against the Pistons and also have some momentum. The Heat can shoot better. And as long as they get solid looks against a poor Raptors defense, the Heat will win here.
Key trends: The Raptors are 2-9 ATS (-6.27 ppg) since Aug 19, 2020 at home.
Early lean: Heat, Over
Grizzlies vs Blazers 1/20/21 (-1.5, 222.5)
Memphis has shown off some incredible defense and a slow pace to start the season, while the Blazers have played a heck of a lot faster, trying to up the pace as much as they can. The Blazers lost CJ McCollum for the foreseeable future due to an injury and now have to rely on Damian Lillard to be the guy. Jusuf Nurkic will likely miss this game as well. The Grizzlies saw Ja Morant miss time earlier this season but now have him back in the lineup. Lillard against Morant should be a fun match-up. However, but when looking at this game as a whole, the Grizzlies could be able to slow down the Blazers offense, limiting their chances and opportunity. I like the Grizzlies to continue their hot momentum against the spread.
Key trends: The Grizzlies are 5-0 ATS (6.40 ppg) since Jan 08, 2021.
Early lean: Grizzlies, Under
Spurs vs Warriors 1/20/21 (-1, 228.5)
The Spurs and Warriors had rather disappointing seasons last year. This year, they’re hanging around, above .500, and have playoff potential. The Warriors are coming off a win against the Lakers, 115-133, so everyone is going to be heavy on the Warriors after that win. But the Spurs have won three of their last four games and have played much better defensively, holding teams to six points less than the Warriors. I like the Spurs to cover in this spot.
Key trends: The Spurs are 9-3 ATS (5.29 ppg) since Aug 02, 2020 on the road.
Early lean: Spurs, Under
Kings vs Clippers 1/20/21 (-10.5, 231)
The Kings have been historically awful on defense this season, allowing teams to score 123.6 points per game. Now they’ll take on a Clippers team that has some incredible offensive talent. The Clippers already scored 138 against the Kings in their last game against then. I don’t see why this would change. The Clippers won by 38 in their last meeting, and the spread is still around just -10. I like the Clippers to get a double-digit blowout here and cover that large spread behind an offense that averages nearly 115 a game.
Key trends: The Kings are 1-8 ATS (-11.06 ppg) since Jan 02, 2021.
Early lean: Clippers, Over
