NBA Betting: Atlanta Hawks Season Long Handicapping 4/30/2026 vs. New York Knicks Game 6

All season long, Doc’s Sports has been breaking down every Atlanta Hawks weekday game, providing best bets along the way. We have generated a profit of more than 80 units so far, and in what could be the season finale for Atlanta, I want to thank everyone who tailed this year. An 80-unit profit on 1-6 unit picks wasn’t easy, but we have been able to cash in big thanks to consistency and non-stop dedication.
Doc’s Sports offers NBA expert picks for every game on our NBA predictions page.
On Tuesday night, the New York Knicks crushed the Atlanta Hawks 126-97 to take a 3-2 lead in the series. New York dominated the game from wire to wire, winning all four quarters outright, while the Hawks' largest lead was a mere two points. Jalen Brunson poured in 39 points for New York, while no Hawks scored 20+ points in the defeat. In fact, Game 5 was so one-sided that all 12 Hawks who stepped on the court finished with a negative +/-, while all 14 Knicks finished in the positives. New York hauled in 21 more rebounds, attempted 17 more free throws, and went an efficient 57% from the floor.
From a betting perspective, we went 1-1. I expected the Knicks to come out firing in Game 5, and we laid the -6.5 point spread with the home team, getting an easy cover from New York. For the player prop, we took Jalen Johnson to go over 20.5 points at plus money, but he fell just short with 18 points in a team-high 35 minutes of action.
Tonight, the Atlanta Hawks head home with their season on the line, as they are one defeat away from being eliminated. While a 3-2 deficit is never ideal in the NBA, all things considered, this is a great scoreline for how the Hawks have been playing. All three of their defeats have come by double digits, including a 29-point walloping in Game 5, as the Hawks haven’t even come close to pulling off another upset. On the other hand, both Hawks wins have come by a single point, as they closed it out in the clutch when they needed it most. Atlanta could easily have been eliminated already due to their poor shooting, but they have a chance to make it a winner-take-all showdown in New York on Saturday if they defend their home court. They earned both of their victories, but the Hawks are overdue for a hot night from deep and a comfortable win on their home floor.
Atlanta has yet to shoot better than 40% from deep in this series, despite the fact that the Knicks struggled to defend the three-ball in the regular season. Atlanta was one of the best shooting teams in the second half of the year, and their dramatic drop-off has come as quite a shock in what would normally be a very winnable series. The lack of playoff experience for a majority of the Hawks roster is certainly a contributing factor, as Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Onyeka Okongwu have all struggled in increased roles. The fact that the Hawks are heading home for Game 6 should settle their nerves, but this team faces elimination for the first time, making the stakes as high as ever.
Not only do the Hawks need to start hitting some shots, but they also need to figure out a way to contain Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson in the paint. The towering Knicks duo has dominated the inside, while the Knicks have also had the hungrier wing players in terms of rebounding. Losing the rebounding battle 48-27 is almost always a death sentence, and the Knicks have been able to take full advantage of those extra possessions with an efficient offense.
We know the Hawks can outshoot New York, but the question remains: will they? Atlanta has been dominated in nearly every aspect of the game in this series, and a few clutch plays from CJ McCollum and Jonathan Kuminga have kept them alive. Their shooting is due to improve, especially at home, and I am willing to stick my neck on the line and call for a Game 7 with a small Hawks upset in Game 6. The loss of Jock Landale on the inside has been devastating, but improved showings from Mouhammed Gueye will take some of the workload off Okongwu’s shoulders. Tony Bradley has also filled in admirably, giving the Hawks some frontcourt depth against a physical Knicks side. Additionally, they have not gotten the calls they deserve in this series, especially on the road, and the NBA wants nothing more than a New York Knicks Game 7 on Saturday night. For the first bet of Game 6, we will go all-in on the Hawks to force a Game 7 with +120 moneyline odds. New York is due for some regression, and the occasional hot streak from deep is all it will take for Atlanta to force a seventh and final game against the Knicks.
On a similar theme, we will also take Nickeil Alexander-Walker to have a solid night from behind the arc. Alexander-Walker, the NBA’s Most Improved Player, has been the lone bright spot from deep, averaging 3.4 threes per game in this series. His splits haven’t been incredible, but he will take 10+ attempts tonight, and that is more than enough to cash his line. It may be potentially the last set of best bets of the season, but we will not waver from the strategy that got us here. Take Alexander-Walker to hit 3+ (-190), 4+ (+135), and 5+ (+310) three pointers tonight in Game 6. He will continue to attack Jalen Brunson whenever possible, and the Knicks' weak perimeter defense will finally be exposed in a big way.
Finally, we will take Josh Hart to stay under 11.5 points at -120 odds. Hart has only cleared this line once in this series, and I am not sure why this line is so high. He plays his best basketball when he is involved in the passing and rebounding games and is surrounded by shooters with much better efficiency. I expected Hart’s points line to be in the range of 9.5 points, and we cannot turn down the value at a seemingly sky-high total for a non-scorer. You can also get creative with the points under paired with rebounds and/or assists over in an SGP, which should have excellent odds.
