Sunday Night Football Picks: Kansas City Chiefs vs Seattle Seahawks Best Bets

This week’s addition of Sunday Night Football features the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs and the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks. Kansas City is coming off a big division win that sinks the Chargers further down the standings. Seattle is coming off back-to-back disappointing losses where they failed to close out the game down the stretch. The Seahawks have lost three games this season, though those losses are by a combined nine points. The biggest storyline to follow in this matchup is the return of Kenneth Walker to Seattle. Walker, having been a focal point in the Super Bowl season last year, departed for Kansas City during the offseason. He has been a huge boost to the Chiefs offense, but there is no doubt Seattle will be ready to shut him down and spoil his return.

Sunday Night Football Kansas City Chiefs Game Preview
The Chiefs have not yet recorded a loss on the new season. They have taken down all of their division opponents already, and they have picked up two big road wins already. This game against the Seahawks will be their biggest road test thus far, and they will need to force turnovers and play clean on offense. The Chiefs are coming off a big home win over the Los Angeles Chargers as they took them down 22-6. The Chiefs defense limited the Chargers to just 259 total yards of offense, held them to just 3.3 YPC, and they forced two turnovers. The secondary shut down Justin Herbert as he was held to just 204 passing yards on the night. Walker had himself a big night in this one as he tallied 128 rushing yards, averaged 6.7 YPC, and he recorded two touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes completed 23 of his 30 passes, but he threw an interception and failed to record a touchdown in this one. Overall, Kansas City leads the league in yards (414 YPG), and they rank fifth in PPG (28). Defensively, the Chiefs rank eighth in yards allowed (306 YPG), and they rank second in the league in points allowed (16.6 PPG).
If the Chiefs want to remain undefeated and give the defending Super Bowl Champs a losing record, they will need to force Sam Darnold to turn the ball over. Darnold has recorded seven interceptions through six games, though he has thrown just one interception in Seattle victories. The offensive line isn’t as stout as they would like it to be, and this is something George Karlaftis, and the rest of the Kansas City pass rush, will want to capitalize on. Another factor that could be a huge swing in this game will be the performance of Walker against his former team. Kansas City has relied heavily on the run game so far, but Seattle is one of just 10 teams to hold opponents to less than 100 rushing YPG. This will be a great matchup to watch Sunday night.

Sunday Night Football Seattle Seahawks Game Preview
The Seahawks are coming into this one looking to find the win column again after back-to-back losses. In their last matchup, they needed an 11-point fourth quarter to tie the game up and force overtime. Unfortunately, the magic ran out, and they fell in overtime to the Denver Broncos 17-14. Despite taking the loss, Seattle’s defense held the Broncos to just 168 yards, limiting Bo Nix to just 107 passing yards. What tells the story best, once again, is Seattle’s turnovers. They turned the ball over three times in this one and have 12 total turnovers on the year. Jaxon Smith-Njigba dominated the box score again as he totaled 134 receiving yards, with 12 receptions. Through six games, the Seattle offense has not looked as dominant as we saw last year. They are averaging 332.2 YPG and 24.7 PPG, both of which rank in the middle of the league. Defensively, they lead the league in yards allowed (237.3 YPG), and they are allowing just 20.3 PPG.
If Seattle wants to climb above .500 they will need to limit turnovers and protect Darnold. The Chiefs have a solid pass rush, so the offensive line needs to dig deep to buy their quarterback some time and keep him from getting uncomfortable. Darnold will need to be smart in his decision making and avoid making errant throws that give the Chiefs extra possessions. They could see Zach Charbonnet return to the field here which should give their run game a big boost and take some more pressure off of Darnold. On the defensive side of the ball, they need to humble Walker in his return to Seattle by making him a non-factor in this one.
Seattle Seahawks 3 Keys to Victory

- Shut Down Kenneth Walker
- Get the Ground Game Going

TE Elijah Arroyo – Out

Sunday Night Football Game Predictions
I like the under here for this game thanks to two strong defensive units, and due to the emphasis on the ground game between both teams. Additionally, I am going to stick with the defending Super Bowl Champs to find their way back into the win column, spoiling Walker’s return with a big performance from his former backup Charbonnet. If Charbonnet can open up the game for Darnold, it should decrease turnover potential and keep the offense from looking one dimensional like it did against Denver. The home crowd will be wild in this one and could also play a factor. Take Seattle -2.5 to end the perfect season for the Chiefs.
My Pick: Seattle Seahawks, -2.5 / Under 42.5
