Sunday Night Football Picks: Baltimore Ravens vs Atlanta Falcons Best Bets

Sunday Night Football features a red-hot Atlanta Falcons team as they host the ailing Baltimore Ravens. The big storyline to follow in this one is the likely absence of Lamar Jackson as he left last weekend’s game after suffering an ankle injury. Atlanta is lighting up the scoreboard thanks to their dominating run game. Bijan Robinson has had perhaps the best two week stretch of his career, and the Falcons have yet to lose with Penix at quarterback this season. Baltimore managed to close out their game against the Tennessee Titans, but the question remains whether or not they can score without their elite quarterback.

Thursday Night Football Baltimore Ravens Game Preview
Jackson did not return to the field for the second half of last week’s game against the Titans after having a dominant first half. The Ravens are also facing a lengthy injury report with linebacker Trey Hendrickson, offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and G Andrew Vorhees listed as questionable and tight end Durham Smythe is already listed as out ahead of the Sunday Night Football tilt. The 3-1 Ravens will look to keep pace with Cleveland, and even potentially move into first place in the AFC North standings with a win this week. However, that looks to be an incredibly tough task as they did not score in the half without Jackson. The Tyler Huntley led offense totaled just 96 yards of offense across six drives in the second half, and they failed to score. 53 of those 96 yards came on one drive that resulted in a missed field goal. We can expect the offense to take a huge step back this week. Defensively, Baltimore rounds out the Top 10 in allowed YPG (315.3), and they are allowing 24 PPG.
With the absence of Jackson, the Ravens are going to have to be near perfect on defense, win the turnover battle, and make some key plays on special teams to set up the offense in favorable position. They need to get their own ground attack working early, which will be a tough task as the Falcons defense is elite against the run. Derrick Henry is going to have to tap into his prime and dig deep for a big performance in this one. The offensive line, despite some potential injury issues, needs to protect Huntley, and buy him some time to get comfortable.

Thursday Night Football Atlanta Falcons Game Preview
The Falcons are heading into this game having won their last two contests by a combined score of 80-38. The Falcons rushed for over 200 yards in their last game against the New Orleans Saints, and they outgained the Saints by 100 yards. They did the little things right by winning the turnover battle and getting their offense going behind the Robinson duo out of the backfield. Robinson finished the game with 145 rushing yards, averaging 7.6 YPC, and finishing with two touchdowns. His backup, Brian Robinson Jr., also dominated as he finished with three rushing touchdowns and 62 yards on 14 carries. Defensively, they did allow Tyler Shough to have an impact on this game, but the defense limited New Orleans to just 2.6 YPC. The Falcons now rank in the middle of the league, averaging 24 PPG and 360.5 YPG. Defensively, Atlanta ranks in the Top 10 in allowed YPG (313), and they lead the league in rushing defense (48.3 YPG).
The best thing the Falcons can do in this one would be to continue riding the hot hand of Robinson. He has nearly 350 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his last two weeks. If they can get the ground game working, they keep the Ravens offense off the field, and give their defense a longer rest. Baltimore’s only chance of winning is by capitalizing on mistakes and establishing the ground game. If Penix avoids a mistake, the Falcons should win this one handily.
Atlanta Falcons 3 Keys to Victory
- Stop the Run
- Robinson, Robinson, more Robinson
- Pressure Huntley
Atlanta Falcons Injuries
OT Jake Matthews – Questionable
DE Za’Darius Smith – Questionable
CB A.J. Terrell Jr. - IR
Thursday Night Football Baltimore Ravens vs Atlanta Falcons Game Predictions
I expect the Falcons to extend their winning streak to three games here in this one. While I am all over the under here, due to the running-heavy offensive focus in this one between both teams, I do expect Atlanta to win handily. You can’t trust Huntley and the Falcons have the best run defense in the league. Take the Falcons to get over .500 for the first time this year and potentially move into the top spot in the ever-weak NFC South division standings.
My Pick: Atlanta Falcons, -3.5 / Under 43.5
