The Sunday Night Football matchup this week is a clash between two underperforming Super Bowl suitors. The Los Angeles Rams are taking their 1-1 record to the Mile High City to take on the 1-1 Denver Broncos. With both teams carrying Super Bowl aspirations, it is a bit surprising to see them both underperform. This game will carry strong implications even in the early stages of the season. While Matthew Stafford recovered in Week 2, he will be taking on a tough defense in front of one of the most ruthless crowds. Denver is coming off some strong momentum that they picked up in their comeback win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams need a win, and this game should be very indicative of how their seasons will go overall.

The Rams are coming off a blowout win over the New York Giants as they dominated on both sides of the ball. The Rams outgained the Giants by 299 yards and held New York to just 182 total yards. The defense limited Cam Skattebo’s ability to impact this game, and the injury to Jaxson Dart did not help anything. Stafford got his groove back, and the ground game was a nice compliment for the veteran quarterback as they averaged 5.8 yards per carry. Though the Rams rank sixth in the league in yards per game, they rank just 22nd in scoring (17.5 PPG). The defense on the other hand has held opponents to just 16.5 PPG and 280.5 YPG.

Stafford is getting momentum at the right time as the Denver secondary is one of the toughest units in the NFL. In order for Los Angeles to pick up the road win, Stafford is going to have to repeat his success from last week, despite his best weapon in Puka Nacua potentially being out. If Nacua is out, someone else will have to join Davante Adams in filling in the holes as Denver will be able to lock down and hone in on Adams if he is the only threat. One of the biggest focuses for the Rams is to establish the run game and take the pressure off of the passing game.

Sunday Night Football Picks: Denver Broncos Game Preview

The Broncos rebounded last week after getting stomped by the Kansas City Chiefs to open the season. They built a come-from-behind win to take down the Jaguars 20-13. Denver rallied to score 14 points in the fourth quarter, finishing with a 17-0 run. The defense shut down the Jaguars run game by limiting them to just 95 total rushing yards. The Broncos outgained the Jaguars by 124 yards, while also winning the time of possession and turnover battles. Denver has yet to get going on offense, averaging just 15 PPG through two weeks and less than 300 total yards per game. The defense has also not been quite as dominant at the start of the season as they have allowed 330 YPG and 22 PPG.

The defense will win this game for either team. If the Broncos can disrupt Stafford with their strong secondary, the Broncos will win. Another focus for Denver in this one will be to shutdown Adams who is coming off one of his best performances in a Rams uniform. In addition to the defense stepping up, Denver will need to limit any turnovers and play clean football. The Broncos need to keep Aaron Donald from making an impact by running a balanced attack.

Sunday Night Football Best Bets and Game Predictions

While this should be one of the best regular season games we will get this year (at least on paper), the Broncos will cover in this one. While the injury report is filled up for both teams, the Broncos offense may be a bit one-dimensional with multiple running backs dealing with injuries. Nacua’s injury may keep him out of this one too for the Rams, as he didn’t practice again yesterday. The Broncos secondary matches up way better to limit Adams and keep him from dominating the stat sheet. Denver will keep this one close and could potentially get the win with home field advantage being the most significant game changing variable.
