The Ferringo NFL Report
by Robert Ferringo - 10/27/2009
After seven weeks of watching the biggest favorites clean up at the window, Vegas had to have bottomed-out last week when favorites went 10-2-1 against the spread with all of the biggest favorites covering easily. Not only did every square with a ticket likely cash in on Sunday, but also the lack of any true upsets outside of Arizona beating the Giants (man, did the books need that one) means that an overwhelming majority of teasers, parlays, and other high-odds tickets were punched.

I can say that in my years of tracking these movements I've never seen so many steam moves in the NFL. I am tracking five but there very easily could have been three or four more that I added to track. Looks like the books can't pump up the favorites high enough, fast enough.
Tuesday TNT NBA Preview: Boston at Cleveland
by Robert Ferringo - 10/27/2009
I know that Orlando is the defending conference champion. But that was last year and this is this year. And when the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers take the court at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Quicken Loans Arena in the NBA season opener it will be a matchup of the two favorites to represent the East in the NBA Finals. Cleveland and Boston were the top two seeds in the East last year as is, and some key summer pickups have bolstered both squads.
NFL Power Rankings Week 7
by Robert Ferringo - 10/22/2009
The underdog is 7-2 ATS when the Vikings and Steelers get together with the road team winning three straight. However, I believe this may be a legit letdown spot for the Vikings after barely holding off the Ravens. That said, Minnesota has been outgained in three straight games - all wins and a 2-1 ATS run - and that's an indicator that things are slowing. Also, on the road against three awful teams (St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland) the Vikings are 3-0 ATS but probably shouldn't be.
College Football Power Rankings - The Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/22/2009
Man, one of my personal best college football betting seasons, but the worst season so far in the three-year history of the Ferringo 15. Curious. For the season that is now just a 41-44-1 mark though so there is still work to do. However, I still feel like it's a long season and that the value will increase as the season tracks on.

Thursday nights have been chalky the last two weeks, with the road favorites coming through (if only because I bet against them) after a strong run (13-2-1 ATS) by the Thursday night dogs. The road team is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings and UNC has been an awful favorite over the last several years. This is actually the first meeting since 2004 between these groups and a rare primetime spot for UNC.
NFL Power Rankings Week 6
by Robert Ferringo - 10/15/2009
Brett Favre is 5-0 for the first time in his career. The main reason is that the Vikings have generated 12 turnovers so far this year. This team has only outgained its opponents, which haven't been that strong, by an average of 12 yards per game. But those turnovers are making the difference. The Vikings are just 5-11 ATS after a win and are just 1-4 ATS against above .500 teams.
NBA Season Win Totals
by Robert Ferringo - 10/15/2009
Last week the Las Vegas Hilton released its season win totals for the NBA season. While most online books are yet to post any NBA season wins ‘over/unders’ the Hilton’s numbers serve as a great baseline for what we can expect from the other sportsbooks. Also, some of these Hilton numbers have already taken enough action to move the lines so we even have a read on who the sharps like and don’t like heading into the year.
NFL Handicapping: What Makes the Bad Teams Bad
by Robert Ferringo - 10/14/2009
Each week it’s kind of amazing to watch football in this country sink to new depths and stumble to new lows. And if you’re not sure what I’m talking about you haven’t watched the Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams, or several other teams take the field this year.
College Football Power Rankings - The Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/14/2009
Now, that's more like it. After three straight down weeks the Ferringo 15 finally came back strong and produced a profitable week, going a modest 7-5 against the spread. For the season that is now just a 35-36-1 mark though so there is still work to do. However, I still feel like it's a long season and that the value will increase as the season tracks on.

Week 5 is in the books and I just want to echo what was the clear Story of the Week: congrats to Cincinnati defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer on the victory on Sunday and my sincere condolences for the loss of his wife. I had no idea on Thursday when I released my wager on Baltimore (as part of a teaser) that it had occurred.
Football Betting: Early Week Line Movements
by Robert Ferringo - 10/13/2009
The sharp early college action had a successful week, with our tracked teams going 4-2 ATS. This season the college early line movements are just 14-23 ATS while the NFL moves (2-1-1 this week) are a decent 10-6-1 ATS. Overall, the early big movers are just 24-29-1 ATS.
NFL Power Rankings Week 5
by Robert Ferringo - 10/8/2009
Apparently no one betting the NFL has ever heard of a letdown situation. Despite playing in one of the most hyped up October games of the league's history (and when you think about the disgusting amount of hype, hype and more hype) the Vikings are taking 91 percent of the action in their game in St. Louis. Curious.
College Football Power Rankings - The Ferringo 15

Last weekend was another rare, rare down week for the F-15. It’s been pretty stunning actually; as for the first time in Ferringo 15 history the teams in this space have failed to produce for three straight weeks! For the season that is now just a 28-31-1 mark. However, I still feel like it’s a long season and that the value will increase as the season tracks on.
AL Divisional Series Predictions: Yankees Vs. Twins
by Robert Ferringo - 10/7/2009
Congratulations Minnesota! You just won a modern October classic against Detroit on Tuesday to earn the American League Central crown and a ticket to the "real" playoffs. Your prize is…wait for it...a trip to the Bronx to face the best team in baseball.
NL Divisional Series Predictions: Cardinals Vs. Dodgers
by Robert Ferringo - 10/7/2009
It all just seems too easy, right? Of the three playoff series that begin today the two teams that seem to be penciled in to the League Championship Series are the New York Yankees (over the Twins) and the St. Louis Cardinals over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
NL Divisional Series Predictions: Phillies Vs. Rockies
by Robert Ferringo - 10/7/2009
One of the best bets in all of baseball over the last decade-plus has been that the NL Wild Card team is going to spring an upset in the Divisional Series. Over the last 12 years the NL Wild Cards have gone an impressive 8-4 in the NLDS and that includes a stellar 5-2 mark in the opening round over the last seven years. And one of those losses for the WCs took place last year when the Phillies bushwhacked the upstart Milwaukee Brewers.
Football Betting: Early Week Line Movements
by Robert Ferringo - 10/6/2009
According to legend, early in the week is the time when professional bettors make some of their moves - the other most important time is just prior to kickoff - and they tear apart the ripe lines from the Las Vegas Sports Consultants. For the last two years I have tracked the opening steam movements of lines in both college football and the NFL. The idea was to see if the "sharp" money was really that, or if the idea of trailing these severe early line movements was merely a myth. Well, I'm glad to say that we are back at it this season and ready to build on last year's research.
AL Divisional Series Predictions: Angels Vs. Red Sox
by Robert Ferringo - 10/6/2009
For the majority of this decade the American League has been a big game of scissors, paper, rock. The New York Yankees (rock) can't beat the Los Angeles Angels (paper). The Angels (paper) can't beat the Boston Red Sox (scissors). And the Red Sox (scissors) can't beat the Yankees (rock).
MLB Handicapping: Minnesota Looks for Magic on Second Straight Night
by Robert Ferringo - 10/6/2009
An emotional Monday Night Football win by Minnesota over Green Bay last night the Metrodome will likely be the staging point for another rowdy, bare-chested, beer-infused mob this evening for perhaps an even more emotional Major League Baseball playoff game.
