Final Four Betting Trends and Expert Handicapping
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2016
The Final Four is just days away. As bettors our job right now is simple - we need to be looking for every possible edge that we can find to help us find the winning bets in the three remaining games on the college basketball calendar. This almost certainly isn't the Final Four that you had in your brackets before the tournament started, so we aren't working with a lot of preconceived notions about these matchups. To help us find that edge, then, let's look back at some recent Final Four betting trends for each of the remaining combatants:
2016 Final Four Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2016
We have made it to the end - or at least close enough. Over the last three weeks we have dissected the NCAA Tournament from every possible angle. Thousands and thousands of words later we were right about a bunch of things and, sadly, wrong about a bunch, too (I'm looking at you, Michigan State). All that is left now is to make six Final Four predictions - what we will see, what will impact the outcome of the games, who has the edge, and so on. Without further ado:
2016 Final Four Betting: Handicapping the Coaches
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2016
What stands out above all else every year when the Final Four is set is the importance of coaching in college basketball. Without exception, the field of coaches each year is deeply talented and wildly accomplished. That is, yet again, the case with the four coaches this year. You can see coaching mismatches in earlier rounds, but by this point things will be decided on the court, not in the coaches' rooms.
NCAA Tournament MOP Picks with other Props Odds and Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 3/30/2016
One of the most heavily-bet player props for this tournament is who will be named Most Outstanding Player (MOP). And now that the field has been reduced to just four teams, Bovada's current prop bet odds are a bit easier to navigate. While there are a number of worthy candidates on the list, I am looking for the one that offers the best value at their betting odds.
NIT Free Picks and Expert Betting Predictions: BYU vs. Valparaiso
by Chris Vasile - 3/29/2016
"When the cat is away, the mice will play." With the NCAA set to resume on Saturday, April 2, for the Final Four, you would think this five-day break would give bettors a time to regroup and re-examine their systems heading into the weekend. Wrong. There is no rest for the wicked, especially in March as the NIT Tournament has two semi-finals slated for Tuesday with some very good teams taking part.
Free NIT Betting Picks and Expert Predictions: George Washington vs. SDSU
by Chris Vasile - 3/29/2016
We are now one day closer to the NCAA Final Four. The buzz of the Elite 8 has worn off, and if you are looking for something to fill the void before the much-anticipated April 2 date then you are in luck. The NIT semi-final slate is scheduled to kick off tonight at the Mecca of Basketball, Madison Square Garden. I have already written about the first semi-final between BYU and Valparaiso, so let's take a look at the second.
Final Four Bracket Picks and Expert NCAA Tournament Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 3/28/2016
What a mess this year's NCAA Tournament has been - at least from the perspective of my poor brackets. My first bracket was shredded when Michigan State, who like everyone else I had going deep, laid an egg in their opener. I tried again with a Sweet 16 bracket, but Gonzaga and others crushed that one. There were only eight teams to choose from when I did an Elite Eight bracket, but I botched that one, too - I had Kansas winning, and though I don't apologize for this one I didn't have Syracuse advancing, either. My crystal ball is clearly cracked this year. So, there is only one thing to do - give it one last try.
Elite Eight Bracket Picks and Expert Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 3/26/2016
Well, another round is in the books. And, as so often happens, a truly brilliant first week of the tournament was followed by a Sweet 16 round that was mostly dull. The higher seed won all eight games, they covered in every case, and only two of the games were even close. It was not the two nights that we dreamed about. Actually, it kind of sucked.
Free Sweet 16 March Madness Prop Bets & Predictions for Friday
by Chris Vasile - 3/25/2016
It is amazing what some down time can to do rejuvenate bettors. If they use that time wisely, that is. In my case, I was able to process the first two rounds of the tournament and come to an understanding of what to expect from each team taking part in the Sweet 16 round. The results speak for themselves. I went 3-0 last night, hitting all three of my team totals prop bets.
Sweet 16 Betting Advice: Best and Worst March Madness Wagers
by Trevor Whenham - 3/24/2016
Up until this point I have spent most of my time writing about and focusing on the brackets heading into the Sweet 16. As the games draw nearer, though, it's time to shift focus a bit and look at what in many ways is a lot more interesting - the spreads. For the most part the spreads in the Sweet 16 are fair - at least some version of what I would expect them to be.
Free Sweet 16 March Madness Prop Bets & Predictions for Thursday
by Chris Vasile - 3/24/2016
Tonight's slate of games features some very interesting matchups. And from what the Las Vegas lines say, some evenly-matched games. As we get deeper into the tournament the lines get sharper and sharper, which is why picking a side is an even tougher task now than in the first two rounds.
Free Sweet 16 Betting Picks: NCAA Tournament Dogs with Massive Wagering Value
by Trevor Whenham - 3/23/2016
On any given day I am drawn to betting underdogs. Maybe I'm just a romantic at heart - always pulling for David and rooting against Goliath. In the NCAA Tournament, though, my fascination for underdogs grows even stronger. There is something about this tournament that can produce underdogs that cover big spreads, or even win outright, and make faithful bettors' pockets fuller. It's a beautiful thing. Looking at the Sweet 16 field illuminates three underdogs that seem to have particular appeal this time around.
Reseeding the Sweet 16 According to NCAA Tournament Championship Futures Odds
by Chris Vasile - 3/23/2016
As usual, the tournament lived up to its "March Madness" nickname and produced some of the biggest upsets and comebacks the NCAA Tournament has ever seen. From Middle Tennessee State knocking off the co-favorite Michigan Spartans, to Wisconsin's winning buzzer beater against Xavier to Texas A&M's biggest last-minute comeback in NCAA Tournament history.
NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 Free Picks for Best Team Props
by Dave Schwab - 3/23/2016
In one of last week's top prop picks, I went with the "over" that at least two No. 1 seeds would advance to the Final Four at +110 betting odds. That wager is still alive and well with all four No. 1 seeds advancing to the Sweet 16, but things start to get tricky from here with some solid competition still left in the other 12 teams. The following are a few more picks for these special NCAA Tournament team props based on the best value in the betting odds.
Sweet 16 Betting Advice: Differences Between Opening Round
by Trevor Whenham - 3/22/2016
We are at a transition point in the NCAA Tournament. Really, it's like a whole new tournament starts on Thursday, because what we will see over the four days of this weekend will bear little resemblance for both bettors and fans to what we saw over the last weekend of insanity. Bettors who ignore those differences and approach this coming weekend the same as last one are going to cost themselves money over the long term by sacrificing an edge and making value tough to find.
March Madness Bracket Predictions: Ranking the Sweet 16 Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 3/21/2016
The field for the Sweet 16 is set, and after perhaps the craziest opening weekend in NCAA Tournament history we have a couple of much-needed days to sit back, regroup, and assess where we are at. While it seemed like there was going to be a bizarre set of teams alive for the second weekend after Thursday and Friday, the truth is that it is actually a pretty top-heavy group. All four No. 1 seeds survived - and didn't experience much stress in doing so.
Sweet 16 Bracket Picks and Expert Analysis
by Trevor Whenham - 3/21/2016
As you may recall, I explained how my bracket laid out in an article published soon after the field was set for the NCAA Tournament. Like so many others, it didn't go well. Not well at all. I had Kansas winning, which I still am happy about. It gets ugly from there, though. Texas A&M was their opponent in the Final Four. That is still obviously possible, but I don't feel nearly as good about it as I did. The other side of the bracket is just a dumpster fire - I had Michigan State beating West Virginia in Houston.
NCAA Tournament Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting March 20 Opening Lines
by Alan Matthews - 3/19/2016
Your bracket may be busted with No. 2 Michigan State's stunning loss to No. 15 Middle Tennessee on Friday -- I had MSU in the Final Four but at least no further -- but basically every sportsbook on earth was doing jumping jacks over that upset because MSU took so much action to win the national title. I would argue that's the biggest upset in tournament history. There were a total of 13 upsets in the first round, matching the record for first-round upsets based on seed since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
March Madness Free Picks for Best Props on Board Saturday March 19 Night Games
by Chris Vasile - 3/19/2016
Good morning Middle Tennessee State fans, and what a lovely morning it is! I couldn't be any happier at the fact that we won't be seeing Tom Izzo's face on television for another eight months. Don't get me wrong, he's a good coach, I just dislike him very much.
March Madness Free Picks for Best Props on Board Friday March 18 Night Games
by Chris Vasile - 3/18/2016
Day 1 of the NCAA Tournament is in the books. And much like the other two certainties in life (death and taxes), your bracket is most certainly busted. It was not one of the craziest tournament days I've ever seen, but it did produce seven games that were won by the lower seed. No. 9 seeds went 3-0 straight up and against the spread, and the No.11 and No.12 seeds both won and covered their respective games. Bracket = busted.
