BYU finally returns home after playing three brutal road games already this season (Nebraska, UCLA, & Michigan). We faded them last week at Michigan, and they were exposed for playing a young backup quarterback. We expect them to struggle again against another defensive-minded coach in Bob Diaco. This will be the fourth straight year that Coach Diaco has faced BYU, and he did very well against them at Notre Dame, beating them both times and holding them to just a combined total of 27 points. The Cougars barely had 100 yards of total offense last week, and that is not what you would like to see when laying this many points. We've had back-to-back big winning weeks on the gridiron and continue our steady, consistent, long-term assault on the sportsbooks. This week we'll go for No. 4 in a row with a 7-Unit NFL Play on Monday Night Football in an interesting game between Detroit and Seattle. I don't think that this Michigan State game will be interesting at all, and I think that this one will be ugly early. The Spartans are a big favorite for homecoming this weekend - which is never a great situation - but I actually think they will come through. Purdue has already been blown out by Virginia Tech, and they looked a little overwhelmed on the road at Marshall. Neither of those teams has the goods that Sparty is packing. Michigan State won't take Purdue lightly either since the Boilermakers gave them a game in Indiana last year. The Spartans understand that they have no margin for error and they need to continue to win and win big to stay in the college playoff discussion. Their defense should be able to harass shaky Austin Appleby into more turnovers, and Michigan State's offense is as explosive as it has been under Mark D'Antonio. I think that this one is going to be over at halftime, and the Spartans have enough defense and depth to make this number stick. Play Michigan State. Take 'Over' 8.0 Miami at Philadelphia (7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3)
Two of the worst teams in the National League will square off in the final weekend of the regular season as the Phillies host the Marlins. With both teams looking ahead to the offseason, we could see some sloppy play and a couple of big innings on the board. It helps that Tom Koehler and Aaron Harang will be pitching in this one, as neither hurler is really worthy of a rotation spot in the big leagues. Koehler has had major problems with control of late, walking 12 batters over his last three outings. Harang has just been atrocious in the second half of the season with an 8.10 ERA in July, 8.04 in August and 5.20 in September so far. This one could go OVER the total before both starting pitchers are knocked out of this one early. There is still plenty of value with this line sitting at -6 even though it opened up at -4.5. The Bearcats are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 nonconference games and just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after a loss. Miami is coming off a big win over Nebraska, and I do not see this as a look-ahead game even though Florida State is up next. Miami knows this could be a dangerous matchup, so they will be ready. The Canes are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Thursday night football games, and they are the superior team here on both sides of the ball if they take care of business. Take 'Over' 71.0 Oregon vs. Colorado (10 p.m., Saturday, October 3)
Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet on Saturday night when the Oregon Ducks travel to take on the Colorado Buffaloes at Folsom Field in Boulder, CO. The Ducks have posted a 19-5-2 record to the over in their last 26 games following a loss, and they are a perfect 7-0 to the over in their last seven games following a loss that came on their home turf. Colorado has been an over team as well in the spot they are in here on Saturday night as they have gone 5-1 to the over in their last six home games and have posted an excellent 8-2 record to the over in games after they allowed 20 points or more in their previous contest. Throw in the fact that the Buffs have gone 6-2 to the over in their last eight conference games and that the Ducks are 4-1 to the over when playing a team with a winning record at home, and that's where we'll have our Free Play on Saturday in a game that we expect to be an old-fashioned Pac-12 shootout. Julianna Pena was very impressive in he last fight against Milana Dudieva in early April, and if the Vixen controls this fight early it will be a long night for Jessica Eye. Jessica comes into this fight losing two out of her last three fights, and I can guarantee Julianna Pena is not scared of Jessica's punching power because her last 3 fights have seen the late 2nd round. I see Pena taking this fight early, and if this fight goes to the ground then the Venezuelan Vixen will dominate this fight and she will win in the late 2nd or 3rd round. This will not be a home game for either team as the London fans will just pick and choose. Miami has not looked good this season. Even in their victory over Washington, the Dolphins just looked bad. Until they get their running game going, and have faith in Lamar Miller, they are just going to be average. This coaching staff seems to get out-coached each and every Sunday. I will absolutely take a better team laying this small number. New York is 6-0 ATS in their last six games versus the AFC and 23-9-1 ATS in their last 33 meetings with the Miami Dolphins. Miami meanwhile is 0-6 ATS in their last six versus the AFC and 0-4 ATS in their last four versus the AFC East. The Dolphins have the makings of a solid football team, but they are becoming too one-dimensional, and that dimension just isn't good enough to win them games. The Jets get the job done. Take #489 Detroit (+9.5) over Seattle (8:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 5)
It was a great start for the NFL 411 System! My first play this year was a 7-Unit winner on the Steelers, and there is plenty more where that came from. This week I will have another 7-Unit Play from the NFL 411 System, and this play is on one of the most underrated teams in the league. This free play is on one underrated team and one overrated team. The Lions are not as bad as their 0-3 record. They were close in losses at San Diego and against Denver last week. They haven't played well but are only a couple plays away from being 2-1 instead of 0-3. Seattle is just 1-2 so far this year. They are coming off a shutout win, and it has always been a great system to bet against NFL teams off shutouts. This Seattle team is up and down. I don't think that they will be able to blow out a talented Detroit team, and I think that the back door in this one will be open all night. Seattle is just 18-38 ATS in their last 56 October games. The Lions have been very bad ATS. But now the books have adjusted too much. I will take the points in this one.
