PGA Tour Picks: 2018 Valero Texas Open Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 4/17/2018
Well, Sunday was a first. A guy won a PGA Tour event whom I knew essentially nothing about. Hey, there are thousands of professional golfers in the world when including the European Tour, Asian Tour, Web.com Tour, etc. Can't possibly keep track of them all. I had heard the name of Satoshi Kodaira and knew he was from Japan, but that was about it - he wasn't even a Tour member. Kodaira birdied the third extra hole to defeat Si Woo Kim in a playoff and win the RBC Heritage on Sunday at Hilton Head in South Carolina.

It's somewhat ironic that Patrick Reed's nickname on the PGA Tour is "Captain America" because he's actually not all that popular among his peers or with fans. I'll let you Google some things in his past because I can't speak to how true they are. The nickname comes from Reed's prowess during international competitions for his country.
2018 US Masters Betting Tips: My Best Bets to Win Biggest Golf Major
by Tony George - 4/3/2018
You have to be long off the box, you have to be able to move the ball right to left (known as a draw for right handers), you have to have a masterful short game and imagination, and you have to be dialed in with your flat stick, and finally you have to have Master's Experience at Augusta National to contend in the 2018 Masters Tournament. A tradition like no other in golf continues this Thursday in the years first Major. Here I will offer some US Masters betting tips with my value picks to wear the Green Jacket. The Masters Expert Betting Picks: Live Long Shots to Wager On
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2018
The Masters is still more than a week off, but to be honest I'm already a little bored of the tournament. Or, more correctly, I'm board of the storylines that are going to be talked about heading into and during the tournament. Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. Can Tiger beat Dustin Johnson? Can Tiger Beat Rory? Can Tiger beat Justin Thomas? Or Jordan Spieth? Can Anyone beat Tiger? Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. Yawn. I guess this proves that when it comes to Tiger I am over it. All of it.

Is next week's Masters going to be filled with story lines or what? Phil Mickelson is back in form. Tiger Woods is healthy and a betting favorite at Augusta. And two-time champion Bubba Watson looks out of his 2016-17 slump by winning for a second time this season on Sunday at the WGC-Match Play.

Rory McIlroy can be a little whiny you know what at times, as he complained about galleries at least week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, but the dude's got game as evidenced by his brilliant final-round 64 at Bay Hill to win his first tournament since, somewhat ironically, the Tour Championship on Sept. 25, 2016. That was the day Palmer died. More irony? Palmer and McIlroy's wife, Erica, shared a birthday - Sept. 10.

In a year, shoot even six months, will anyone remember that Paul Casey won the 2018 Valspar Championship? Nope. They will only recall that Tiger Woods nearly won. The TV ratings for a usually middling event were off the charts all weekend because of Tiger. The ratings for the final round on Sunday of the Valspar drew the largest TV audience for any non-Masters event since the 2015 PGA Championship. It was also the highest network TV audience for a non-major since the 2013 Players Championship, which was won by Woods. Saturday drew the best-rated Round 3 of a PGA Tour event on any broadcast network since 2006.

The Masters can't get here soon enough. Tiger Woods is starting to look like he might actually win again at some point in 2018, and Phil Mickelson is playing his best golf in five years. Lefty won the WGC-Mexico Championship in Mexico City on Sunday, his first victory anywhere since the 2013 British Open - that was the longest title drought of his Hall of Fame career. The 47-year-old was the oldest man in the field but beat young Justin Thomas, the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year, in a playoff to become the oldest winner of a WGC event. It was Mickelson's 43rd career win on Tour.

By all accounts, reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year Justin Thomas is a good dude. And I doubt he cares what I think, but come on man! Thomas had a fan ejected from the course over the weekend for rooting against him at the Honda Classic, which Thomas would go on to win in a playoff over relative unknown Luke List. It was Thomas' seventh victory in his past 31 worldwide starts, and he's just the third player in the past 30 years with eight PGA Tour wins before age 25.

When previewing last week's Genesis Open at Riviera in Los Angeles, I wrote that I was wagering on Paul Casey, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods (despite him being part of it) at +900 to win against the field (-2000) but also some long-shot money on two-time Genesis Open champion Bubba Watson at +5000 as it started to look as if the two-time Masters winner was breaking out of a long slump.

When I went to bed Saturday night, I was quite comfortable in thinking that I was going to get some nice cash on Dustin Johnson winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for the third time in his career. The world No. 1 was the +550 favorite entering the tournament and was co-leading with journeyman Ted Potter after three rounds on a course DJ practically owns.

I tell you, I thought we were looking at a second straight Super Bowl to go to overtime when Patriots quarterback Tom Brady got the ball with 1:05 left and his team down eight points vs. Philadelphia - after all, this is the GOAT we are talking about, and he led an incredible late comeback last year against the Falcons in the Super Bowl.

If you are a fan of playoff golf on the PGA Tour, the start of 2018 has been right up your alley as Jason Day's playoff win at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego on Monday was the third straight multi-hole playoff on the Tour. It's only the third time this century that scenario has occurred. From 2002-2017, there were a total of two tournaments that went to at least six-hole playoffs. Now there have been two in the past three weeks.

Spaniard Jon Rahm was the +900 opening favorite last week at the CareerBuilder Challenge in northern California, and he beat relative unknown Andrew Landry on the fourth hole of sudden death for his second career PGA Tour win and to replace Jordan Spieth as the No. 2 player in the world rankings.

With all due respect to Patton Kizzire, who looks like he will be a very good player on the PGA Tour for years to come, few people are going to remember last week's Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu because of his playoff victory. Golf was on no one's mind in Hawaii when on Saturday morning an emergency missile alert accidentally went out to everyone in the state, causing mass panic as people thought they were about to die because of a nuclear strike from North Korea.

No sport, in my opinion, makes you want to go out and play it more than watching golf. At the same time, no sport, in my opinion, humbles you more quickly. I learned that again this weekend, and I'm definitely not Dustin Johnson.

Before I get to previewing the 2018 opening Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course of Kapalua in Hawaii, let's take a quick look ahead to the major championships for this year. Bovada, for example, has yes-only props on several big-name players as to whether they will win any major in 2018. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is +165. Jordan Spieth has the shortest odds at +160.

Due to rain in Mexico, the final round of the PGA Tour's OHL Classic at Mayakoba was a 36-hole affair, and American Patton Kizzire held off pre-tournament favorite Rickie Fowler by a shot Sunday for his first career win in his 62nd Tour start.

Not too often will you see a three-man playoff on the PGA Tour where a bogey is good enough to advance, but that's what happened Sunday at a windy TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Patrick Cantlay, Alex Cejka and Whee Kim all finished regulation tied at 9-under and all bogeyed the first playoff hole. The trio then returned to the 18th hole and Cantlay won with a par for his first career PGA Tour title - but it won't be the last as he has long been touted as a potential star alongside contemporaries like Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

The final big-time tournament of the calendar year, the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, will be remembered for a while thanks to the choke job by world No. 1 Dustin Johnson and the amazing comeback of Justin Rose.
