NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 11
Last week I promised you two teams that nobody would use, and both of them delivered as Oakland and Minnesota got the job done. It was smooth sailing for Oakland as they dismantled the Denver Broncos to the tune of 37-12. As for the Vikings, well, it wasn’t pretty, and trusting Kirk Cousins on Monday Night Football was ballsy, but the Bear’s offense showed us why it’s always a good idea to fade them. If you managed to make it through to the next round, congratulations. Your reward for that is a Week 11 slate that is filled with plenty of close spreads and some tight matchups.
For those of you who are reading this and are unsure what a survivor pool is, or are new to the survivor pool world, give this piece a quick read as it’ll break down what it is and offer up a few strategies on how to navigate the season.
Los Angeles Chargers over New York Jets: I’ve yet to give you the Chargers as a top-rated play, and this is the week I do so. No bet against the Jets is a bad one. And after how they lost two weeks ago to the Patriots, they just proved that they are indeed tanking for the No. 1 draft pick. The Chargers got lit up by the Dolphins, but I expect a bounce-back for them at home. Look for a big game from Justin Herbert and Co. as the Chargers win this one by double-digits.
Baltimore Ravens over Tennessee Titans: If this isn’t the ultimate revenge game, then I don’t know what is. The Ravens have had this game circled on their calendar since the Titans knocked them out of the playoffs last year. I understand the Ravens aren’t playing the greatest football right now, but I expect them to be prepared for this one and eager to get back in the win column.
Minnesota Vikings over Dallas Cowboys: Apparently Andy Dalton is going to be under center for the Cowboys in this contest. And with the Red Rocket calling the shots, I’ll still take my chances with Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins. The Vikings’ offense should have more room to maneuver this week compared to last week, and we saw how explosive it can be when given the opportunity.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Jacksonville Jaguars: The Pittsburgh Steelers may very well be the best team in the NFL. Only time will tell if they get to a Super Bowl or not, but they should be able to take care of a terrible Jacksonville team. The Steelers defense is among the best in the league, and Jake Luton is not going to be the QB to end the Steelers’ undefeated season.
Cleveland Browns over Philadelphia Eagles: I’ve seen just about enough of the Eagles offense to put them on the auto fade category right next to the awful Jets. The Eagles stink, and I believe the Cleveland Browns will win this game by double-digits.
Kansas City Chiefs over Las Vegas Raiders: It’s always a tough proposition to go against prime-time home underdogs, but the Chiefs will be simply too much for the Raiders to handle. Not to mention, the Chiefs are off their bye week, and no coach is better at preparing his team off a bye than Andy Reid.
Miami Dolphins over Denver Broncos: We’ll roll with one of the hottest teams in the league right now, and that’s the Miami Dolphins. They’ve been playing great football and should be able to take care of a Broncos team that has issues on both sides of the football.
Green Bay Packers over Indianapolis Colts: This game reminds me of when the Packers went to Tampa and got throttled. They were 3.5-point favorites in that game, and now they are two-point dogs despite having the better record. The Colts got extremely lucky to win their latest game against the Titans, and I believe the Packers get the win in this game.
Las Angeles Rams over Tampa Bay Buccaneers: I’m leaning toward an upset here because the Rams defense is legit. They should be in Brady’s face all game long, and we saw what happens when Brady is under pressure – the Bucs fail to produce. The Rams, with the win last week against Seattle, have a great shot at catching the Seahawks for the division lead.
Arizona Cardinals over Seattle Seahawks: It’s hard to believe the Cardinals won that game last week against the Bills, but they did. The Seahawks defense continues to allow teams to move the ball at will, and the Cardinals do just that. They’ve already beaten the Seahawks once… why not a second time?
Detroit Lions over Carolina Panthers: There are question marks surrounding both teams in this one. Matthew Stafford and Teddy Bridgewater are questionable this week, so who is going to play QB for these teams? I won’t be betting this game, and neither should you.
New England Patriots over Houston Texans: If the Patriots win over the Ravens doesn’t spark the team, I don’t know what will. The Patriots looked serviceable, while the Texans are coming off a game where they scored just seven points. Give me Bill Belichick over whoever is running the show over there in Houston.
Atlanta Falcons over New Orleans Saints: The Saints need this game more than the Falcons, but the Falcons know Jameis Winston all too well. The Falcons also have what it takes to keep up with the Saints should this turn into a shootout, but I think Winston turns it over one too many times to lead the Saints to victory.
Cincinnati Bengals over Washington: The Redskins did everything in their power to lose last week against the Lions, while the Bengals were blown out against the Steelers. I could list about 39 other things I’d rather watch than this game.
