Free NBA Picks Milwaukee Bucks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 4/7/2023
This season, I will be breaking down every Milwaukee Bucks weekday game and giving out my best bets for the contest. While we may not always favor the Bucks, using my knowledge of the team, and the NBA as a whole, we will be able to churn a consistent profit throughout the season.
Doc’s Sports offers NBA picks for every game on our NBA predictions page.
On Wednesday night, the Bucks beat the Bulls 105-92, flexing their defensive muscles in front of their home crowd. The supporting cast stepped up after Giannis Antetokounmpo was ruled out late. Bobby Portis had a monster game, scoring 27 points to go along with his 13 rebounds. Jrue Holiday posted 15 Assists and 20 points, while Brook Lopez added on for 26 more points. Only 6 players scored a point for the Bucks, and they overcame a halftime deficit for the eventually lopsided victory, allowing just 41 points in the second half.
From a betting perspective, we’re finishing the season off on a high, going 2-1 on bets. The Bucks won outright, and covered the 6.5 point spread with ease, despite the absence of Antetokounmpo, cashing our first two best of the night. DeMar DeRozan fell well short of his 23.5-point threshold, shooting 3/12 from the floor on route to 8 points.
Tonight, the Bucks (58-22) welcome the Memphis Grizzlies (50-30) to Milwaukee for their final home game of the regular season. There are just 2 games to go for both teams, and both have secured the first and second seeds, respectively. Since there is little to play for, I expect both starting lineups to play little to no minutes tonight. The Bucks have already ruled out Antetokounmpo, Holiday, Lopez, Khris Middleton, Grayson Allen, and Pat Connaughton for tonight, leaving their starting lineup looking very different than usual. Jevon Carter, Portis, and Joe Ingles will be tasked with leading the team, and will be playing desperately to earn themselves some valuable playoff minutes. The usual quality we’ve come to expect from Milwaukee may not be present tonight, but the intensity on both ends of the court is sure to prevail.
For the Grizzlies, other than Steven Adams, they have a relatively clean injury report. While players like Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr. will play, their minutes will likely be severely limited in an otherwise meaningless game. At a moment’s notice, despite their absence from the injury report, they could find themselves acting as a spectator for this matchup. The Grizzlies have held down second place for all but one day in 2023, yet have not been given the respect they deserve. Many still see them as having little to no chance of prevailing from a crowded Western Conference, but their seemingly endless energy on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court make them an instant title contender.
Tonight’s matchup is a difficult one to call. We haven’t seen Mike Budenholzer completely rotate his lineup yet this season, and the role players will get a chance to shine for the Bucks. Despite their ‘bench player’ status, the starting lineup expected for the Bucks tonight would still finish out of the lottery picks in the NBA. The Bucks are just so deep that they can’t be counted out of any matchup. And considering they are getting 7.5 points at home, I have no choice but to side with them tonight. If the Grizzlies starters play their usual minutes, they will be able to overpower the Bucks and probably cover this spread. However, I’m expecting 25 or fewer minutes from all of the starters, and the Bucks will have a chance not only to cover, but to win this game outright. In their final regular season home game, I’ll take Bucks +7.5 to keep it close.
The second bet of the night is on the Under. The line is set at a flat 230, and I’m expecting the league's top two defenses to cancel each other out. Considering the talented offensive players are sitting for the Bucks, and will be on a minutes restriction for the Grizzlies, this total is simply too high. The defensive workrate that has put these teams atop the standings will trickle down to the bench, but the consistent scoring will not. A high title for two solid defenses? I’ll take the Under every day of the week.
There is no doubt we will finish in the green this season, with $100 bettors up $2,970 heading into tonight. Our overall record is sitting at 68-56, and I hope you have made as much money as me tailing these picks. The Bucks are the odds on favorite to take home the NBA championship, and a hopefully deep playoff run will give us plenty of opportunities to add to this total.
