Sweet 16 Free Betting Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 3/23/2010
Sixteen teams remain and the madness of March hits a temporary hiatus to allow everyone to catch their breath after four days of non-stop action. The gap between the second round of the NCAA Tournament and the round of 16 also gives bettors more time to break down games and pay attention to point spread movements.
March Madness Handicapping: the Aftermath of Kansas Upset
by T.O. Whenham - 3/23/2010
Northern Iowa did more than just pull off a miracle on Saturday night - they also exploded a stunning number of March Madness brackets. The stats are beyond belief - 98 percent of the 4.8 million people who filled in a bracket on ESPN.com had Kansas in the Sweet 16, almost 60 percent had them in the Final Four, and more than 40 percent had them winning it all.
Sweet 16 Bracket Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 3/22/2010
For a lot of people and their brackets - a whole lot this year - the first weekend of the tournament was like a nuclear bomb for their hopes in the office pool. If they were like more than 40 percent of people who filled out March Madness brackets, including me, then they had Kansas winning it all, but Northern Iowa and Ali Farokhmanesh destroyed that.
Free March Madness Picks: Sweet 16 Money Line Underdogs
by T.O. Whenham - 3/22/2010
My bracket didn't go particularly well last weekend - like everyone else I had Kansas winning it all, so now I have to rely on a Butler upset of Syracuse to have any chance at all of success. While I didn't have any success there, what has been going well so far in this tournament has been picking out profitable upsets on the money line.
College Basketball Championship Futures Betting: Possible Values
by Aaron Smith - 3/22/2010
Is there really any doubt why it is called March Madness? If anyone wondered before, I think they have their answer now after a wild first weekend of stunning upsets that turned March Madness brackets into blobs of red ink and turned unknown teams and players into household names. It’s all part of what I believe is the best tournament in all of sports. Every team has a chance to make their mark on history, and this year already plenty of them have taken advantage of that opportunity.
March Madness Handicapping: Conference Breakdowns
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 3/22/2010
The Big East was the dominant conference in college basketball, the Pac-10 was having perhaps the worst year of any major college basketball conference ever and this was a week year for the mid-majors overall. Or at least that was the thinking heading into the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Four days later and 48 games of basketball later, things have certainly changed.
Free March Madness Picks – Money Line Underdogs for Sunday
by T.O. Whenham - 3/20/2010
The first round of the NCAA Tournament was great to watch, and it was really great from a betting perspective - especially if you like to be on underdogs. The first time I set out to write an article picking betting underdogs that were worthy of support I ended up with six winners in eight games and a very tidy profit. That's more than enough reason to do the same thing in the second round.
March Madness Sunday Preview
by T.O. Whenham - 3/20/2010
Maybe it's just because Thursday's games set the bar so high, but Friday's NCAA tournament action was a letdown. There was very little drama, few upsets, and not that many games that were interesting until the end. The Cornell upset of Temple should have been a highlight because it was an impressive upset, but that game was over as quickly as most of the rest.
Saturday March Madness Preview
by T.O. Whenham - 3/19/2010
Thursday's first day of March Madness was everything that we have come to expect from the tournament. It was brilliant. Almost every game was tight. Three went into overtime. Seven games were won by the lower seeded teams, and four of those would qualify as significant upsets. It had drama and intrigue and excitement. It was exhausting. Here's hoping that the 16 teams that survived Thursday's games can play games that are half as exciting on Saturday when they hit the court again. Here's a look at Saturday's eight second round games:
March Madness Bracket Predictions: Midwest Region
by Robert Ferringo - 3/17/2010
The Midwest Region is by far the most difficult region in the NCAA Tournament bracket. It’s the most difficult to make predictions in and its going to be the most difficult to win. Eight coaches in this region have been to the Final Four, seven coaches have been in the national championship game and four of the headmen have NCAA championship rings.
March Madness Bracket Predictions: West Region
by Robert Ferringo - 3/17/2010
The top seed just lost one of its most critical pieces. The No. 2 seed is a program with no pedigree and a team with an unimpressive non-conference resume. The No. 3 seed is plenty shaky and is the shell of a team that couldn’t get it done last season. The No 4 doesn’t play any defense and is barely favored in its first round game and the No. 5 is an overrated mid-major with zero wins over top-notch BCS clubs in the last two years. And those are the best teams in this region.
March Madness Odds: Some Soft First Round Numbers
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 3/17/2010
Seeing lesser-ranked teams being favored is nothing new to people who follow college basketball point spreads. During the regular season the hostile environment of a college basketball arena is usually enough to warrant a home standing unranked team being favored over a ranked team.
March Madness Handicapping: Predicting the No. 12 Over No. 5 Upset
by Matt Severance - 3/17/2010
You hear it every year: Take at least one No. 12 seed over a No. 5 in the first round of your NCAA Tournament bracket. So how often does it happen? Since the tournament expanded to 48 teams in 1980, which first created No. 12 seeds, those teams are 41-79 in first-round games against No. 5s. Since the 2001 tournament, No. 12 seeds have taken 18 of 36 matchups from No. 5 seeds. Last year, three of four No. 12s pulled off the trick.

March Madness Betting: Ranking the Conferences
by T.O. Whenham - 3/17/2010
Conferences are crucial throughout the regular season, but they really don't mean much once the tournament starts. Still, there are a couple of days for us to kill between now and the start of tournament play, so we have to find ways to kill that time without going crazy - and ranking the six major conferences based on their tournament strength and likelihood of tournament success. Without further ado:
March Madness Betting: Possible ‘Cinderella’ Teams
by Aaron Smith - 3/17/2010
It happens every year during March Madness: there is always that Cinderella squad that steals the spotlight and very few people see it coming. Part of the reason the March Madness is so great is that upsets occur quite often.
March Madness Bracket Predictions: South Region
by Robert Ferringo - 3/16/2010
A story that’s bouncing around the bobblehead media discusses how Duke was given the easiest bracket and the easiest road to the Final Four as some sort of conspiracy by CBS to juice up their ratings for March Madness and the NCAA Tournament. Notorious scumbag Jason Whitlock was one of the first to put that thought out into the ether and Colin Cowherd then took it and ran with it on his ESPN radio show. So now apparently this is a story.
March Madness Bracket Predictions: East Region
by Robert Ferringo - 3/16/2010
My March Madness bracket prediction for the East Region: a whole lot of people with their face buried squarely in the lap of John Wall, John Calipari and the rest of the Kentucky Nation. But what they don’t realize (and I’ll come back to this with another story tomorrow) is that Kentucky doesn’t have a chance in hell in cutting down the nets and winning the NCAA Tournament.
March Madness Betting Strategies: Reseeding the Brackets
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 3/16/2010
Before every NCAA Tournament I like to reseed the regions and then go about making my picks and filling out my brackets and as part of my March Madness betting strategy. Sometimes the seeds match up, but usually they are drastically different. Here are new seeds, region by region with a brief description of why teams rose or fell. These seeds to do not account for a team’s “body of work” this season but rather how you would rank them based on their overall talent taking into account momentum, coaching, experience and health. My adjusted seed is listed first with their actual seed after the team in parentheses.
