I think that this number is going to be posted somewhere around 10.0. But I think that this one will stay ‘under’. Yovani Gallardo is scheduled to take the mound for the Rangers in this one. He is coming off a very sharp effort his last time out, giving up just three runs in nearly eight innings of work. Matt Boyd will also be on the mound for the Tigers and he is coming off a quality start too. Boyd has been great at home this year, posting a 2.61 ERA, and I think he will be good again in this one. The Tigers have gone ‘under’ in 15 of 20 games against a right-handed starter and the ‘under’ is 14-6 in their last 20 at home. Lauer has struggled on the road this season with opponents hitting .310 against him leaving him with an ERA of 5.09 over his 7 starts away from PetCo. Lauer has also struggled in night games this season with opponents hitting .323 against him, leaving him with an ERA of 5.48 over his 10 night game starts. The Reds have taken six of the nine matchups that they have had against the Cubs this season, but due to some weird scheduling all 9 of the games have been played in Cincinnati. Tyler Mahle will be on the mound for the Reds and he has pitched well with Cincinnati going 6-1 over his last 7 starts. However, the Cubs had his number on May 20th when he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits (3 home runs) of a 6-1 loss and I think they will have similar results this time around in Chicago. Take ‘Under’ 7.0 Tampa Bay at N.Y. Mets (7 p.m., Friday, July 6)
We are having a profitable season in MLB to this point but I am looking to hit the jets in July. July and August have historically been my two best months on the diamond and I am looking for a solid run this week headed into the All-Star Break. The break can’t get here fast enough for the Mets, who are one of the worst teams in baseball. They are backing Jacob deGrom in this spot and deGrom has been one of the best starters in baseball. He has a 1.84 ERA on the season and a nearly 6-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio. But deGrom is actually coming off back-to-back starts allowing three runs. I think he is going to rebound – as much as someone can rebound from a quality start – and shut down the light-hitting Rays. Tampa Bay has been a dead ‘under’ bet over the last two weeks. They have gone ‘under’ in six straight and eight of 10 and their pitching ranks in the Top 10 in ERA and WHIP. The Rays are also No. 26 in scoring at just 3.87 runs per game. I see another tight, low-scoring game and I think that another outstanding effort from the Mets ace will go wasted.
