Take #227 Central Florida (+6.5) over Florida (7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23)

Florida (6-6) will play in-state rival UCF (8-4) in the Gasparilla Bowl on Thursday in Tampa. Florida managed to avoid missing a bowl game for the third time since 2013 with a victory in the regular-season finale against Florida State. It’s been a bit of a down year for the Knights as well, as they sit at 8-4 and weren’t among the elite class of AAC teams in 2021. Florida is the favorite, but it will be without a few key players, including defensive end Zachary Carter, who chose to declare for the 2022 NFL draft and opt out of the Gasparilla Bowl. Anthony Richardson is expected to miss the game as well. Interim head coach Greg Knox is expected to coach Florida in the bowl after he led the Gators to a regular season-ending victory over Florida State, filling in at the position for Dan Mullen, who was fired in November. New head coach Billy Napier was introduced on Sunday, but he is expected to focus on the future of the team while Knox coaches his final game with the Gators. How disciplined will the Gators really be here, though? They are the more talented team, but getting this many points with a Gus Malzahn coached team is too hard to pass up. We like UFC and the points. The Knights are 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. For many, Christmas Eve is part of a family celebration. And for those of us involved in the festivities, we also have a TV on somewhere or are using our phones to get an eye on the Hawai’i Bowl. Part of the charm of this bowl is seeing the sites of this state, and it is one of the rare bowls where you can often enough have a home team playing. Neither Memphis (6-6 SU) nor Hawai’i (6-7) qualifies as impressive. After a 3-0 start, the Tigers were 3-6 and 2-6-1 ATS the rest of the way, which included a 1-4 and 0-5 ATS road record. The Rainbow Warriors had reported internal issues with the coaching staff, and a few players went into the transfer portal after the regular season concluded. However, Hawai’i was 4-2 SU in the islands, and they were an impressive 3-0-1 ATS when catching points at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex (old Aloha Stadium). At over a touchdown at home against a Memphis bunch that is on an 0-9 ATS road slide, I’ll take the points with the Island Boys. The Packers let Baltimore sneak in the backdoor last week, but they looked dominating for most of that game on the road. This team is battling for home field advantage in the NFC, and I think that they are focused to close December on an upswing. I think the Browns are cooked. They are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10, and this has been one of the most overrated teams in the league. They had to play on Monday and now turn around and go on the road to play on Saturday – and we still don’t know who will be suiting up for Cleveland. Green Bay has won its home games by 15, 8, 17, 14, 10 and 18 points this year. That’s an average of nearly two touchdowns per game. I think the Browns are beat. Take Green Bay. Houston is coming off a win over Jacksonville last week, and they haven’t covered the spread in back-to-back weeks since Weeks 1-2. The Chargers had earned back-to-back blowouts over the Giants (37-21) and over the Bengals (41-22) prior to that loss to the Chiefs. I think that they will be able to do something similar against a depleted Texans squad. The Chargers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games, and they are 5-1 ATS in their last six games in December. This team still controls its own destiny for the postseason and should add to their resume with a win here. Take #245 West Virginia (+4) over Minnesota (10 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28)

This is the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Just do not believe Minnesota should be favored against any Power 5 team that is good enough to make a bowl game. The Gophers have had injuries at running back all season, and Tanner Morgan did not have a great year with just a 10/8 touchdown to interception ratio. Coach Neal Brown is a perfect 4-0 coaching bowl games in his career, and I feel he will take this game down to the wire as well. Both teams have strong defenses, and getting over a field goal is too good to pass up. Minnesota is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 bowl games as a favorite.
