NFL Opening Weekend is one of the most enjoyable weekends on the football betting calendar. With college football betting dominating Saturdays and now full cards of games on Sundays and Mondays football will dominate the action at the sportsbooks for the next six months, culminating with the Super Bowl in February.
The 2017 NFL season begins with a Thursday Night Kickoff Game between Kansas City and New England. The Thursday Night Kickoff Game was established in 2002 and since 2004 the defending Super Bowl champion has hosted the opening game of the season. Last year defending champion Denver had a rematch with Super Bowl LI opponent Carolina, with the Broncos winning a thriller 21-20.
This Kansas City-New England matchup is a rematch of last year's Divisional Round playoff game between the Chiefs and Patriots. New England won that game 27-20 as a six-point favorite.
There are several other interesting rematch games in Week 1. There are seven games pitting divisional rivals against one another, including the Sunday Night Football game between the New York Giants and Dallas. Those two opened the 2016 season playing on Sunday Night Football in Dallas, with the Giants winning 20-19.
