NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 5
by Joey House - 10/1/2025
After last week's zany conclusions to the 1 o'clock games, Week 4's two blocked field goals seemed tame in comparison. Philadelphia did its part in bringing excitement to the slate by blocking Tampa Bay's first punt and taking it to the house for a touchdown, marking the second consecutive week their special teams blocked a kick and returned it for a touchdown.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 4
by Joey House - 9/24/2025
Week 3 of the 2025 NFL season proved that the NFL is the craziest sports league in the world. For the first time since 1991, there were 4 blocked field goals in a single day. Even more remarkable is that all of these blocks occurred within a one-hour window in the fourth quarter of the 1:00 p.m. games. I offer my condolences to all Los Angeles Rams backers on Sunday. As a lifelong Eagles fan, I was ecstatic with the outcome. And while I didn't have any individual wagers on the game, I have empathy for one of the worst bad beats I've ever witnessed.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 3
by Joey House - 9/17/2025
Just two weeks into the 2025 NFL season, and things are getting mildly chaotic. The Cincinnati Bengals are the lone undefeated team in the rugged AFC North but lost their franchise QB Joe Burrow to a toe injury that requires surgery. The best-case prognosis is three months, but ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting it is most likely season-ending. However, backup Jake Browning has starting experience (4-3 in seven starts with Cincy in 2023) and led the Bengals to a 31-27 victory over a surprisingly pesky Jacksonville team.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 2
by Joey House - 9/10/2025
The first week of the 2025 NFL season is in the books. Interestingly enough, the week began with a statistical anomaly, and Sunday night had another one. The season opener began bizarrely, with the Eagles' star defensive tackle Jalen Carter being ejected for spitting on the Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott. The score at halftime was Philadelphia 21, Dallas 20.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 1
by Joey House - 9/3/2025
Welcome to a new season of Doc's Sports NFL Confidence Pool coverage. Each week, we break down every matchup, pick a straight-up (SU) winner, and assign a point value based on how confident we are in each selection. This format focuses solely on identifying outright winners, not against-the-spread (ATS) results.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 18
by Joey House - 1/2/2025
Welcome to the final edition of Doc's 2024-25 NFL Confidence Pool! As we prepare to wrap up this thrilling season, it's hard to believe how quickly the weeks have flown by. The opening weeks of the 2024 NFL season were nothing short of remarkable, characterized by a whirlwind of upsets that defied expectations and left fans and sports analysts in disbelief. Sportsbooks reveled in their strong financial performances as underdogs frequently won the square money. However, as the season progressed, the statistical landscape began to normalize.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 17
by Mike Allen - 12/24/2024
Welcome to Christmas Week in the NFL, otherwise known as Week 17. We have football games on five days this week in 10 different time slots, including an all-AFC Christmas Day doubleheader. We're looking to improve on our total of 87 points from last week. Confidence is high, with more teams showing who they are as we make our way down the home stretch of the 2024 NFL regular season.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 16
by Joey House - 12/18/2024
Week 15 is officially in the books, and Doc's NFL Confidence Pool Picks went a strong 12-4 and earned 119 points out of the possible 136. We have just three weeks of the season left. And with the upcoming holiday season, there are some interesting scheduling quirks.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 15
by Joey House - 12/11/2024
Welcome to Doc's Sports weekly NFL Confidence Pool, where we pick the NFL team we believe will win and assign a point value based on the confidence of that pick. We followed up our fantastic Thanksgiving week with a solid 10-3 record with 83 points out of a possible 91. All of the bye weeks have been used. Therefore, from here on out, every team plays each week.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 14
by Joey House - 12/3/2024
Welcome to Doc's Sports weekly NFL Confidence Pool, where we pick the NFL team we believe will win and assign a point value based on the confidence of that pick. We almost brought out the brooms for the Thanksgiving holiday, as we were one point away from having a perfect score. New England gave up a touchdown with 12 seconds remaining and lost 25-24 to the Indianapolis Colts. That was the only blemish on a full 16-game slate.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 13
by Joey House - 11/27/2024
Welcome to Week 13 of the NFL Confidence Pool, where we pick the team we believe will win and assign a point value based on our confidence in those selections. Week 12 was turbulent; we went 7-6 for 55 total points. The holiday slate brings us a loaded 16-game schedule, allowing us ample opportunity to make up for any lost points in the past few weeks.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 12
by Joey House - 11/20/2024
Week 12 in the NFL Confidence is upon us, and it continues to be a wild ride. For the second week in a row, we had a blocked field goal win a high-value game. However, all good things must end, and Week 11 saw our string of dominance stop with a 6-8 record and 55 points. Like Ben Affleck told Jeremy Renner in "The Town," "I'm putting this whole town in my rearview." Let's dive into the action in Week 12.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 11
by Joey House - 11/13/2024
Week 11 in the NFL is upon us, and the Doc's Sports Confidence Pool is on an epic run. After having another outstanding 10-4 record and 87 total points out of 110 possible, we've pushed our 5-week mark to 59-14 (80.4 %) and 501 out of a possible 576 (87.0%). We have another gold-star weekend mapped out, so read on as we pick more winners.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 10
by Joey House - 11/6/2024
Welcome to Week 10 of Doc's NFL Confidence Pool, where we pick straight-up winners in the NFL and assign points based on our confidence in those picks. We started shaky, losing our Thursday night game (again), but after that, it was smooth sailing.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 9
by Joey House - 10/30/2024
After starting Thursday with a loss and watching Baltimore forget how to play football, I thought it would be a rough week in our confidence pool. However, those were our only losses; we went 14-2 and 113 points out of 136 total. Over the past three weeks, we have gone 37-7 with an 84% winning percentage. We have earned 304 points out of a possible 346, a grade of 87.8%. We plan on another big week for NFL confidence pool picks, so here is what we like for Week 9:
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 8
by Joey House - 10/23/2024
After a few mind-boggling weeks, favorites have started to win the majority of games again. They are now 72-35 SU for a .673 winning percentage. This is just a few points below last year's percentage of .685 and above the 22-23 season of .659. One situation, however, continues to remain higher than expected for the underdogs. In non-divisional road games, the dog is 21-34, a .382 percentage, significantly higher than the .320 winning percentage from 2002 until now. This is something to be aware of for future games.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 7
by Joey House - 10/16/2024
Welcome to Week 7 of Doc's Sports NFL Confidence Pool. We kicked some serious butt in Week 6, going 11-2 and scoring 99 out of a total of 105 possible points. We incorrectly picked Carolina to defeat Atlanta and Jacksonville to win against Chicago in England. But we were on point last week, and we expect to so it again this week. So without further ado, here and Doc’s Sports NFL Week 7 confidence pool picks.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 6
by Joey House - 10/9/2024
It may be the "Year of the Dragon" in the Chinese Zodiac, but it is clearly the year of the dog in the NFL calendar. Two more touchdown home favorites fell last week. The San Francisco 49ers blew their sixth 4th-quarter lead since Kyle Shanahan became their head coach. In the decade that legendary Bill Walsh roamed the sidelines as the Niners boss, San Francisco coughed up double-digit 4th-quarter leads just three times. We went 7-7 last week in our picks for 53 points.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 18
by Joey House - 1/3/2024
Welcome to Doc's Sports NFL Confidence Pool Picks, where we analyze the slate of NFL games each week and give you both the selections to make and the corresponding "confidence value" to go along with the pick. The old saying goes, "Time flies by when you're having fun." Truer words were never spoken, because even though my beloved Iggles are collapsing before my very eyes, I've never had such an enjoyable or fast season as this one.
NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 17
by Joey House - 12/27/2023
After a rock-solid 13-3 week, Santa put coal in our stocking and a 6-10 record. Because I always strive to improve, I evaluate my picks and try to "reverse engineer" to see where I went wrong. For the most part, I favor home teams and usually don't pick many big upsets. It may make for a dull slate, but I aim for consistency over style. Home favorites went 6-3 SU, and favorites overall went 11-5 SU.
