I was impressed with the strides that Mark Stoops made with this Wildcats program last year. Their record (5-7) may seem unimpressive. But upsets at Florida and over South Carolina, as well as tough games with Miss State and Missouri, showed that this team is improving. They also came woefully close to bowl eligibility, losing to Louisville 44-40 on the last day of the season.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much this team is going to build on last year's near-miss. They have only five guys back on offense and will be starting as many as six freshmen and sophomores on that side. Nine players return on defense, and they could have eight seniors lining up on that side. But they were just No. 93 in scoring and No. 75 in total defense last year.

We will find a lot about Kentucky in their opening month. They will be facing revenge-minded opponents at South Carolina and Florida in September. Kentucky does have four straight home games (and a stretch of five of six at Commonwealth Stadium from Sept. 19-Nov. 6).

Kentucky's win total seems high given their personnel losses. But they basically have three gimme games against Louisiana, Eastern Kentucky and Charlotte. However, do we see Kentucky winning more than three SEC games? I don't, even with their home-loaded schedule.

I think Kentucky will get to five wins again this year. But I don't see them getting to seven. This would be a low-risk play because I think the best-case scenario is a 'push,' so I would play Kentucky 'under'.
