2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
I don't care what anyone says: TCU got screwed. The Horned Frogs were snubbed from the college football playoffs last year in favor of a team from the pathetic Big Ten. The politics of the decision to exclude TCU have been discussed ad nausea in the national press. But one thing is certain: this year's team will be using last year's snub as serious motivation this fall.
TCU welcomes back 10 offensive starters from the nation's No. 2 scoring offense (46.5 points per game). They were in the Top 5 in total offense, and the Horned Frogs should continue to wreck people with savvy senior Trevone Boykin at the controls. They have their top four pass catchers and four offensive line starters back as well, and there isn't much to stop the group that scored 82 points against Texas Tech last year.
Defensively, there will be some adjustments for the Horned Frogs. They only have five starters back on that side of the ball. But Gary Patterson stockpiles talented athletes on that side of the ball, and I don't expect a steep drop-off from last year's Top 20 scoring and total defense.
There's no doubting that TCU is a juggernaut. They are talented and motivated and the best team in the most concentrated conference in college football. They will blast through September, and then their season will come down to their only four losable games: at Kansas State, at Oklahoma State, at Oklahoma and then the season finale against Baylor.
I can't see TCU losing three of those games. They are flat-out better than Kansas State and Oklahoma, and maybe they will drop one of them. I think the game at Oklahoma State is a trap. And I give TCU a slight edge over Baylor in the finale because A) its in Fort Worth and B) the revenge angle. So I think two losses is the max for this group. I don't love the play because the margin is thin. But I like TCU to go 'over'.
