They are playing in Philadelphia on Wednesday and then in Jersey here on Saturday. This team has struggled away from home, and they have lost five straight games. Seton Hall dominated the Golden Eagles up in Wisconsin in the first meeting, winning by 10. I don't think it will be different here. The Pirates just welcomed back stud freshman Isaiah Whitehead, and they are ready for a strong late-season run. This spread will go higher, so bet it soon. Take Georgetown +8 over Villanova (2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31)
It was an easy winner in Knoxville last week with the first half 'under' in the Auburn-Tennessee game. We've been giving out a ton of winners lately while rolling out three straight winning nights this week and six of eight winning evenings the last two weeks. I am going to back the Hoyas here, but only if this spread is at least eight points. They have found a way to hang around even in games that they have lost this year, losing by just five to Kansas, just three to Wisconsin, and just three points to Providence in an overtime game. The Hoyas hammered Villanova in the first meeting this year, beating them at home by 20. I know that gives the Wildcats the revenge angle. But the fact is that outside of a blowout win over Xavier in Philly - and Xavier really struggles at home - there haven't been too many impressive performances from this year's Wildcats. Last year we saw the best team they faced, Creighton, dominate them in both regular-season meetings. We could see more of the same here. Just one of their wins in the last month has come against a Top 50 team. So until I see them put the boot to someone that is capable of trading blows I'm going to hold off on laying big numbers. Georgetown will grind this one down. And even if they don't win I still think they find a way to make the points hold up. We're in the process of one of our best college basketball seasons to date. Take #13 N.Y. Islanders +110 over Boston (7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7)
There's a power shift occurring in the Eastern Conference, and the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders are right in the middle of it. The Bruins have been the gold standard in the East for years with a core group of cagey veterans that have stayed together and won. But that group is finally starting to show its age, and Boston is falling back to the pack. Meanwhile, the Islanders are a team on the rise as they now lead the Metropolitan Division. Contrary to the Bruins, the Isles have a nice group of youngsters that continue to improve each game. The betting markets haven't fully embraced this shift in power, so we get a really good price on New York in this matchup. The Bruins won in Boston 5-2 a little over a week ago, so I think we'll see a much more focused effort from the Isles in this one. Take New York as our free play selection. Take Kentucky over Florida (9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7)
I have been on fire with my basketball service and am going to keep it going with another strong weekend card with my one-play-per-day approach. Every time Kentucky gets an opportunity to face quality opponents and win by a specific margin they take advantage of it. This is a team that frankly gets lulled to sleep over a lack of competition in the SEC at times, but when this team gets to face above-average teams they take advantage of it and are able to challenge themselves to the moment. This is what Coach Cal has preached to these kids, and he has a way of getting them up for the big games. Note that Kentucky just won by 11 points over Georgia, and that has to irk Coach Cal to begin with, but has also beat the likes of Louisville by 8, North Carolina by 14, UCLA by 39 and Kansas by 32. So you have a team that did not particularly play well against Georgia, that was possibly looking ahead to Florida and now will certainly get up for this game given their lackadaisical performance last game - on primetime Saturday Night against a raucous environment. Look for Kentucky to certainly get up for this game, they will be motivated and focused, and with Florida coming off yet another loss and being 5-4 in conference play and almost being outside the top 100 in offensive efficiency, let's roll with Kentucky to likely win this contest by a wide margin and also be a decent public fade to boot as well given the large line.
