Thursday Night Football Picks: San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks
Both the San Francisco 49ers and their NFC West rival, the Seattle Seahawks, will need to lick their wounds quickly as they are on the Week 6 slate for Thursday Night Football. They each lost at home in games the Niners were favored by a touchdown and Seattle by the same. It would've been nice to get a half of a point on either side of the key number, but neither team won.
However, no two outcomes are ever equal, and a perfect example of that is the two home losses last week. San Francisco dominated the 1st half, classically came out flat in the 2nd half, Kyler Murray continued to be his inconsistent self, and the Niners blew an important division game. I imagine Kyle Shanahan will have the boys ready to play the full sixty minutes this week.
We called the likely Seattle loss in their sandwich game with the Giants in the Week 6 lookahead line article. We also thought the 49ers would win, but just 3 minutes ago, the consensus betting odds for this game have shifted half a point up to (-3.5) for
San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers (-3.5) at Seattle Seahawks (+3.5)
I wanted the (-3) last week. And just because the Niners let their foot off the gas in the 2nd half doesn't mean we were ready to abandon ship. It's quite the contrary. I don't mind that they had the slip-up against the Cardinals because the likelihood of it happening this week is severely diminished.
Moneyline
San Francisco: -185
Seattle Seahawks: +155
This one opened at just (-165) for San Francisco and jumped up to where it is now before the betting line moved to 3.5.
Point Total: 47.5
Wow, if this wasn't Thursday Night Football, I would lean towards the over. Nearly every player listed as questionable for either team is on the defensive side of the ball. The most notable injury on either side is the Seahawks' weak side linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who, along with his backup as well, have been ruled out of the game. Additionally, we have four more starters listed as questionable for Seattle. The Niners have six defensive starters with the same designation. Could we see a repeat of the Lions vs Seahawks shootout from earlier this year?
San Francisco kicker Jake Moody is out this week. The team's expected to sign a replacement any moment now, but this could affect the scoring.
49ers at Seahawks Betting Analysis
Sandwich game or not, Seattle losing to the Giants at home is a terrible look. New York didn't even have their WR1 or RB1 suit-up. Outside of Geno Smith's scampers, the team had a grand total of 30 yards on the ground on seven carries. The offensive line wasn't any better in pass protection, alllowing Smith to be sacked seven times.
Has Seattle been exposed as a fraud after their 3-0 start? I've faded them for two straight weeks now. And if San Francisco had cruised to a win on Sunday, maybe I could get behind the home division underdogs in this spot.
We can take the over 47.5, but since 47 is such a key number, we can pass.
49ers at Seahawks Betting Pick
The 49ers have outscored their opponents 2:1 in the 1st half while nearly giving up the same ratio in the 2nd half. The Seahawks have been quite balanced, averaging 12 to their opponents' 12 over the first two quarters. We know Seattle's strength is throwing the heck out of the ball. They couldn't quite hang with the Lions down the stretch, but they are still a more dangerous team to cover 3.5 in the 1st half than they are to say not cover the 2.5 in the 1st half.
Give me the Niners here to come out fierce and focused. I like the new kicker to potentially perform better early on than late due to possible pressure.
49ers 1st Half (-2.5)
