Take John Rahm (+100) As Top Spaniard at The Masters
This is a fairly common prop that you will be able to find at most offshores and a few of the books in Vegas (Westgate, William Hill and South Point).This is really a three-horse race as to who will come away as the top Spaniard at the 2017 Masters despite the fact that there are four players listed in the prop. Jose Maria Olazabel is in the field, but he's listed at 65/1 in this prop, and let's be honest here, there's a very good chance that he's not going to be playing into the weekend. As for the other two golfers in the prop, Sergio Garcia is listed at +160 while Rafael Cabrera Bello checks in at +325. Two reasons why we like Rahm here even though it will be his first time at Augusta. The first being that he in coming into the tournament as probably the hottest golfer on the planet other than Dustin Johnson. The 22-year-old already earned his first PGA Tour win this season at the Farmers and he's finished T16, T5, T3, 2 and T10 in his last five tournaments coming into the Masters. The other thing that has us on Rahm here is that anytime we get a chance to bet against Sergio in a big-time event, we try and do it. He's never won a major and he tends to come up small when the spotlight is on him, which it will be this week once the "best player to never win a major" talk starts to pop up. We actually think that Cabrera Bello could be more of a challenge to Rahm here since he finished 17th here last year, but he's been in awful form coming in as he has gone T37, T38, T17 and CUT in his last four tourneys leading up to this week. We would have made Rahm around -140 or so based on his current play, so we'll take him at the even money or so price here as the Newsletter Free Play to finish as the top Spanish player at The Masters this weekend. The Knicks stink. They are one of the worst teams in the NBA and they won't be able to keep pace with the Wizards in this one. I think that Detroit is going to win this series with the White Sox, and they very well could be lining up for a sweep this Thursday afternoon. The White Sox are a team that is in the beginning stages of a complete rebuild and overhaul. They traded away two of their better players this offseason, and they are not expected to compete in the Central this year. The Tigers are an aging, overpriced team. But they are also a group that is likely setting itself up for one more potential playoff push. The Tigers are healthier than they have been at this point in the season over the past few years. And I think that Detroit's veterans see the writing on the wall; a fast start is imperative. Derek Holland is a guy that got crushed his last two seasons in Texas, and I don't think he is the answer in Chicago against a Tigers lineup that can be as ferocious as any in the A.L. I have posted 7 of 8 winning MLB seasons and I am looking forward to doing it again this year! I got off to a good start with a winner on Monday and I will have my first 5-Unit MLB Game of the Week on Friday. As for this free pick on Friday, I am going to look for offense in this one. Both teams are going to be getting to the back of their rotations. Right now it looks like Brett Anderson versus Jimmy Nelson. Anderson made only three starts last year because of injury. He was not good at all and had an 11.91 ERA last season. Anderson was not very good this preseason. He got pounded for 32 hits in seven appearances. He doesn't look good. Jimmy Nelson has a career ERA around 4.50. He has struggled against the Cubs, and I think that he will get hit hard here. This is a rivalry game and I expect both teams to fight hard for this one. Take 'Over' 8.0 Boston at Detroit (1 p.m., Saturday, 1:10 p.m.)
Last season Rick Porcello took home the AL Cy Young award. He was 22-4 with a 3.15 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 33 starts. It was obviously a career year for Porcello, who kind of crept up from nowhere to grab the award. As a result, there's going to be some regression for the right-hander, whose career ERA is still 4.20 in eight seasons. The big question is how much. If you look at his peripheral stats (K/BB ratio, GB%, xFIP, etc.) he was basically the same pitcher that he was in 2015 when he posted a 4.92 ERA for the Red Sox. That puts him on the OVER list for 2017 in my book. The Tigers are scheduled to send right-hander Matt Boyd to the hill in this one. He's still trying to figure it out at the big league level after posting a 5.64 ERA in two seasons in the majors. Both of these teams' strengths are their deep lineups from top to bottom. They are going to give these two pitchers everything they can handle on Saturday, so we're going to go OVER the total for our Free Play selection. I know this number is high at -260, but I'm actually shocked that Will Brooks is not -350 or higher. Charles Oliveria has dropped 3 out of his last 4 fights and back-to-back fights while Will Brooks is coming off a loss from Alex Oliveria. Before that loss Brooks had a two-fight winning streak, and Saturday night I see Brooks using his speed and jabs being too much for Charles Oliveria. Brooks is a well-rounded fighter and if he doesn't do something stupid in the octagon Saturday he should have no problem coming out on top.
