Take ‘Over’ 8.5 Colorado at N.Y. Mets (7 p.m., Friday, May 5)

That’s now six straight wins in this space and I am 51-28 (64%) with my free newsletter plays over the last 79 weeks. We hit with the Mets ‘over’ last week and we will go back to them here. Kodai Senga is on the mound for the home team, and he is following a pretty predictable track for Asian pitchers as they come to the States. His first few starts were dazzling, and everyone was guffawing over his stuff. However, the more hitters see him, the more he gets hit, with Senga allowing 17 hits and 10 runs in his last three starts. He has also walked four in each of those three outings. I think he is going to get hit hard again here, and I think that Colorado is going to offer a lot of underdog value in this game as well. The Rockies are starting Antonio Senzatela, who is making his season debut as he works back from a torn ACL. The 28-year-old righty didn't pitch well in his two rehab starts in Triple-A, giving up seven earned runs on 13 hits through just over six innings. Take Kansas City over Oakland (8 p.m., Friday, May 5)

This is as bad as it gets, the two worst teams in baseball. Why would I choose such a game? I believe one team honestly has an edge in a game that will not be on Apple TV+ today. I’ll give the Royals an edge in starting pitching, with Brad Keller (2-2, 3.56 ERA) over the A’s Kyle Muller (0-2, 6.98 ERA). Each pitcher has an awful strikeout-to-walk ratio well below 1.5-to-1. However, as you can tell by the ERAs, Keller is more accomplished in working out of jams and neither offense is any good. Both offenses are ranked 25th or lower, with Oakland just a little bit ahead. Nevertheless, though the sample size is not large, K.C. averages 4.2 RPG vs left-handed starters like Muller, compared to right-hander starters at a mere 3.0, which could be the difference in the contest. The wild card in this clash is the bullpens, which are both likely to see at least four innings of work, and they are currently in the bottom four in baseball.
