MLB Prediction From Vernon Croy:
Take Cincinnati over Atlanta (7 p.m., Thursday, May 8)
Now let's get to your MLB comp play for Thursday May 8 between the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves. Nick Lodolo has pitched well overall this season and he has an ERA of 2.10 over its last five starts averaging six innings per start. Lodolo is coming off his best start of the season allowing no earned runs and just two hits in seven innings of work with nine strikeouts and just one walk throwing 91 pitches. Atlanta counters with Spencer Swallenbach and he has struggled over his last 3 starts allowing 11 earned runs in 17.2 innings of work along with 21 hits. I believe Cincinnati has the better pitcher on the mound here Thursday night and I do like them to get the victory at a good price. Play Cincinnati on the moneyline. MLB Prediction From Arun Shiva:
Take Pittsburgh over Atlanta (6:40 p.m., Friday, May 9)
We roll with the Pirates here as they hook up against the Braves. For starters, we are very proud of Bryce Elder for turning his season around as he has brought his ERA down to 5 or so for the Braves. However, as he comes off a monster win over the Dodgers at home, going 5 innings, 4 hits and 2 runs including 0 HR, we think he has a massive let down at Pittsburgh. He has not gone back to back games all year with 0 HR and as Falter pitches today as he has gone 7 innings, 2 hits and 1 run against the Padres, and coming off 4 innings, 8 hits and 5 runs against the Dodgers, as he comes off back to back losses against two elite teams, we think he gets back on the saddle with a great start at home and we think Elder has a massive let down and therefore, we love the Pirates here. MLB Prediction From Robert Ferringo:
Take Chicago (-120) over N.Y. Mets (7 p.m., Friday, May 9)
We won last week with our newsletter play with San Francisco coming through at even better odds than I projected. I am now 48-18 (74%) with my last 66 Doc’s Sports newsletter plays. We have racked up 74 of 104 wins in this space (71%) and I am 119-58 (67%) with my newsletter plays over the last 177 weeks. The Cubs have great mojo right now. I know their overall record is just 19-13 and they are a nondescript 6-3 in their last nine games. But this group is playing really solid baseball. It’s going the other way for the Mets. After their hot stat they are just 2-6 in their last eight games. Clay Holmes is still just a guy with 11 career starts so I’m wary of how much I can trust him. He is facing one of the best lineups in baseball, No. 1 in scoring and No. 2 in batting average. Jameson Tallion has been throwing the ball well over the last few weeks and I think he’ll take advantage of a Mets lineup that is tired after a road trip. MLB Baseball Prediction From Strike Point Sports:
Take Minnesota over San Francisco (8 p.m. Friday, May 9)
Bailey Ober was shelled in his season opener allowing 8 ER and 2 home runs over 2.2 innings against the Cardinals, but he has been a completely different pitcher since. Ober has allowed just 1 earned run in every start except one and he has allowed 3 home runs over the 36 innings since that dreadful first start. Jordan Hicks is set to take the ball for San Francisco and he has been just the opposite as Ober where he was really good in his first start but has struggled ever since. Hicks didn't allow a run in his first start of the season picking up the win against the Astros, but he hasn't won since and has allowed 25 earned runs over 31.1 innings. Byron Buxton finally seems to be healthy after battling injuries for a couple of years and he is off to a good start this season leading the Twins in home runs (7) and stolen bases (7). I think the Twins pick up the win in this matchup. If you don’t have an account at Doc’s Sports sign up now and get $60 in premium member picks click here. MLB Prediction From Jason Sharpe:
Take Detroit (-115) over Texas (6 p.m., Saturday, May 10)
Texas is scheduled to go with starter Jacob deGrom in this one. The 36-year-old ace right-hander has been one of the best pitchers in baseball when he's been healthy during his big-league career. With that said I feel like deGrom has started to show some signs of age and regression this year despite finally appearing to be back to health. His ERA sits at a very solid 2.61 to start the year BUT his FIP is the highest it's been in any season in his career 12-year career currently at 3.67. Much of this reason is the huge decrease he's had in his strikeouts early on going from averaging around 11k's per 9 innings in his career to just 8.53 K's per 9 in 2025. He faces a red-hot Detroit Tigers team in this one that's posted an awesome 13-3 home record. The Tigers will hand the baseball to Reese Olson. The 25-year-old right-hander is quietly becoming a solid starting pitcher with a 3.03 ERA this season that ranks 35th overall (30+ IP minimum) out of 117 pitchers and he's not been a fluke either as his FIP is even better at 2.89 which ranks 21st. Take Detroit to win this game. If you don’t have an account at Doc’s Sports sign up now and get $60 in premium member picks click here. Soccer Prediction From Doc's Sports:
Take ‘Over’ 2.5 Dallas at Salt Lake (8:30 p.m., Saturday May 10)
These sides are nothing to write home about offensively, but their defenses are bad enough where both sides should have plenty of opportunities, and these sides have a strong history for high scoring matches. These are two of the worst defensive sides in MLS and combine to allow more than three goals per match. Dallas is coming off a road loss to San Diego where they conceded five goals. They were held scoreless in that one, but they should put an emphasis on scoring here and home pitch should help in that regard, and Salt Lake have given up five goals in their last three on the road. There’s a great chance Dallas could get two or more here. Salt Lake have scored in three straight on the road, amassing five goals in those matches. So there’s a good chance they will get at least one, and multiples is not out of the question. Four of the last five meetings have gone over the posted number, and three of those matches have seen four or more goals scored. We think we could see a result where both sides had multiple goals, but we are confident both will combine for three or more, and this price is more than fair for Saturday’s clash. WNBA Futures Prediction From Raphael Esparza:
Take Los Angeles Sparks ‘Under’ 21.5 Total Season Wins
Last year the LA Sparks had their first single digit win season and yes, they will be much improved, but 21 wins is a lot. Trading for Kelsey Plum is huge but how will Cameron Brink come back after her major knee surgery. The Sparks will have much depth in their lineup but with the Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, and Seattle Storm also improving I just don't see the Sparks getting the plus 20 wins.
