Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 13: Basic Strategy Teasers
Successfully betting on the NFL is one of the most intricate and difficult tasks a person can take on. Any short-term lucky success you might have will only fuel your ego and thus lead you to lose potentially even more than you would if you didn't have those successful bets. It's a slippery slope sometimes, and we need to throw down an anchor from week to week in order to keep our bankrolls in the green.
Generally, we are trying to beat the number. However, what if we just let the parity of the NFL and the efficiency of the betting market do the work for us? It's just one bet a week, and it pays out at (-120) in most sportsbooks. Your weekly anchor can be your teaser.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay where the bettor can manipulate the betting odds in their favor. As you might expect, the sportsbook adjusts your projected payout accordingly, but that's okay. A step away from greed is always a good idea.
There are different types of teasers you can do. You have 4-point teasers up to 12-point teasers and probably more. Determining potential value gets more difficult with higher point teasers and those with several legs or more.
If you've never teased a game before, they can also be a lot of fun to tinker with. If you want to make a lottery ticket, go for it, but don't confuse it with your weekly basic strategy teaser, which is a serious bet.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
The basic strategy is to only use 6-point teasers for NFL games, and we want to keep them to two legs. From there, it's just as simple. We want to tease through the key numbers of 3, 4, 6, and 7. The number 3 is the most key number, meaning more games end with a point differential of 3 than any other. The second most common is 7, followed by 6. We don't tease to the key numbers, but instead all the way through them.
If we want to tease a betting favorite down, we look for teams with odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5), and after giving them 6, we have odds under a field goal at (-1.5) to (-2.5). If we want to tease an underdog up, we find underdogs of (+1.5) to (+2.5), and after giving them 6, we have them over a touchdown at (-7.5) to (-8.5).
Potential Week 13 Teaser Games
LA Chargers (-1.5) at Atlanta Falcons (+1.5) Total: 47.5
In this cross-country matchup, the Atlanta Falcons, fresh off a bye week, host the LA Chargers, who just played the Harbaugh Bowl on Monday night back in Inglewood.
Said bye week could not have come at a better time for the Falcons, as they were embarrassed in Denver 38-6 in Week 11.
The Chargers just played a very physical game, and it will show in the second half after they've traveled three time zones to the east, and the Falcons will be running on more than a week's extra rest.
Pittsburgh Steelers (+2.5) at Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5) Total: 47
The Pittsburgh Steelers lost last week in a terrible spot to the Browns, but people forget they had rattled off five in a row before that. Taking Mike Tomlin as an underdog is an autoplay. And if I have another 6 points to work with, I feel great.
The Bengals are coming off their bye week, but Pittsburgh played close to home on Thursday, giving them the mini-bye.
Seattle Seahawks (-2.5) at New York Jets (+2.5) Total: 41.5
This game is a good example of a teaser that falls under our basic strategy early in the week. However, with even more distracting news coming out of the Big Apple this week, we may see this line get even higher for the Hawks.
Aaron Rodgers has come out and said he wants to play for another team next season. What does that mean for their performance this week? He could have his best game of the past three years, and that team still finds a way to lose.
NFL Week 13 Basic Strategy Teaser Prediction
I know Joe Burrow will be slingin' it, but trust in Mike Tomlin off a mini-bye. The Atlanta play isn't a sell on the Chargers after their loss to the Ravens. It's more of a buy on the Falcons' bye as opposed to a short week after playing the Ravens. We saw how Pittsburgh was getting pushed around the line of scrimmage on their short week after playing Baltimore.
Pittsburgh Steelers (+8.5) and Atlanta Falcons (+7.5): -120
