Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 2: Basic Strategy Teasers
Making money betting on the NFL is one of the hardest things a human can do. This is especially true when chasing those pesky point spreads every week. The juice is worth the squeeze if you do your homework. However, I'm sure there have been multiple memorable occasions where you were forced to watch your break turn bad in the final minutes of a game.
If only there was a way for us to buy some points in exchange for the sportsbooks adjusting the betting odds…
There is a way, and it's called a teaser bet.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser Bet?
A teaser bet is a type of parlay where the bettor essentially buys points from the sportsbook for two or more bets in exchange for lower-paying odds. For example, parlaying the Buffalo Bills (+2) and the LA Rams (+1.5), each valued at (-110), pays out at (+264). You can add different point values depending on the type of teaser. However, if we add 6 points to each team's spread for a parlay teaser bet, it would pay out at (-120).
These can be a lot of fun. You can tease betting favorites down, tease underdogs up, or even tease the point spread below or above the total.
Do you know what's even more fun than planning and playing? Winning. Have some fun on the side with a few sprinkles if you please, but today I want to share with you one of the most basic and best strategies in all of sports betting.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
A basic strategy teaser is an NFL 6-point teaser. We use the NFL because the margins of victory are much smaller on average. A 6-point teaser is utilized because we can take it through the key numbers of 3,4, 6, and 7, while still giving us a proper payout. To tease through those key numbers, we look for betting favorites with odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5) and tease them down to favorites of (-2.5) to (-1.5). More games end with a point differential of 3 than any other. The second most common key number is 7, followed by 6. Finally, if we have a betting underdog of (+1.5) to (+2.5), we can tease them up to (-7.5) to (-8.5).
We don’t have much to choose from this week, but from a distance, it looks as if the quality of our options makes up for the low quantity.
Potential Week 1 Teaser Games
Buffalo Bills (+2) at Miami Dolphins (-2)
For this AFC East division game, we are looking to tease the underdog Bills up to betting underdogs of (+8). The Dolphins defense is likely better this year than the last, while the offense remains as dangerous as ever. However, Bills' quarterback Josh Allen is the ultimate competitor. He may not have the accuracy of a Patrick Mahomes or Matthew Stafford, but he is every bit of a gamer. If we tease the Bills, they would have to lose by eight or more points. Do you know the last time they lost a regular season game by more than six points? November of 2021.
New York Giants (+1.5) at Washington Commanders (-1.5)
It's hard to focus on the Giants here, with the Los Angeles Rams sitting below them with the same odds. I'm just being honest. The Giants are a good system play this week. I'm sure they may have some trends on their side as well. We are all human, though, and that side of me prohibits betting on the G-Men until further notice.
LA Rams (+1.5) at Arizona Cardinals (-1.5)
If this betting line seems off to you, it's because star wide receiver Puka Nacua of the LA Rams has been ruled out of this week's game with a knee injury. This will affect the team. However, how much is yet to be determined. The Rams won a Super Bowl without him, and Cooper Kupp is back. He reeled in 14 for 100+ against Detroit.
If Aaron Rodgers loses Garrett Wilson, it’s time to panic because he doesn’t have much else. That likely won’t be the case now with the Rams. Stafford completed 30 passes on Sunday to players not named Nacua. I don’t see the passing game of the Rams regressing much at all with Nacua down.
Arizona isn’t slowing this offense down. So even if the Cardinals have a late lead of two scores, Stafford and head coach Sean McVay can and will find a way down the field to put one in the end zone.
NFL Week 2 Basic Strategy Teaser Pick
LA Rams (+7.5) + Buffalo Bills (+8)
