Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 2: Basic Strategy Teasers

It was a difficult Week 1 in the NFL for most to make money. How did you do?
The parity in today’s league never ceases to amaze us. Last week, it was the Dallas Cowboys who nearly outplayed the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, while the Jets took the Steelers down to the wire.
If only there were a way to let the parity work for us instead of against us. There is a specific method that professionals use every week.
I have to warn you, though. We’re going to be talking about the P-word, yes, parlay. It’s generally a bad word. I rank it right up there with “Can’t” and “Hate”.
Most, yes, but not all parlays are of the devil. For example, we have teasers. With the correct implementation of a basic strategy, teasers can be quite profitable over time.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay wager that allows the bettor to manipulate the line in their favor. In return, the sportsbook adjusts the payout accordingly. You can do many different kinds of teaser bets. You can give 10 other NFL teams 8 points to add to their spread. You'll get a nice payout, for sure, but miss one, and the entire bet is null and void.
Thankfully for us, a basic strategy to tease NFL games has been developed and tested with success.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
The basic strategy to teasing NFL games is first to keep your teaser to just two teams. If you think it's tempting to add more legs to a regular parlay, it gets even harder not to load your pistol any more than you already have.
Just two bullets are enough. From there, it needs to be a 6-point teaser. These 6 points must be teased not just to but through the key numbers of three and seven.
To do this, we search for an underdog with betting odds of either (+1.5) to (+2.5) or a favorite with odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5). Adding six points to the underdog or teasing them up takes us through those key numbers.
What is a key number? A key number is a highly common point differential in NFL games. Three is the most likely margin of victory, followed by seven and then six.
We take underdogs from (+1.5) to (+2.5) through the key numbers to dogs of (+7.5) to (+8.5). Inversely, if we want to tease a betting favorite down, we take them from (-7.5) to (-8.5) down to (-1.5) to (-2.5).
Potential Week 2 NFL Teaser Games
New England Patriots (+1.5) at Miami Dolphins (-1.5) Total: 44
Neither the New England Patriots nor the Miami Dolphins looked good in Week 1. The Dolphins looked the worst, though, apparently not bad enough, though, to make them home underdogs.
It was a disastrous opening day for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had just 114 yards passing with two critical interceptions and a lost fumble.
I expect a better game from him, but you aren’t blowing out the Pats. Even if they build a two-score lead, I can see the big arm of Drake Maye keep his team close.
Denver Broncos (-2.5) at Indianapolis Colts (+2.5) Total: 42.5
Once again, we’re looking at potentially teasing the Indianapolis Colts up to underdogs of (+8.5). That’s a lot of points to be getting at home, even against one of the stingiest defenses in the NFL.
I could see this one going about 23-13 in favor of the Broncos. The defense is too good. I’ll stay away.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+2.5) at Houston Texans (-2.5) Total: 42.5
Our final opportunity to make a teaser for Week 2 in the NFL comes down to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who won by three points, avoiding overtime against the Falcons after Younghoe Koo missed a 44-yard field goal as time expired.
This was a significant win, but I don't rate it as highly emotionally charged. There wasn't a big comeback.
For Houston, they’ll be hungry to get their first win of the season, and the defense should hold Baker Mayfield down somewhat.
I like the low point total here as our six points go farther. The Bucs have too many weapons on offense and an underrated defense. They’re live for the outright win and are definitely included in our Week 2 teaser.
Week 2 Basic Strategy Teaser Pick
New England Patriots (+7.5) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+8.5): -120
