Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 3: Basic Strategy Teasers

NFL betting can be some of the most fun of any sports wagers you’ll ever make, but at the same time, as you know, they can be some of the most frustrating plays of your life. While your peers struggle to focus on Monday because of the excess booze they had over the weekend, you’re left not hungover but “Fun over”.
Yes, there’s still Monday Night Football coming up later in the evening, but you tried to play three too many point spreads straight up on Sunday, and now you’re in the red hundreds of dollars you don’t have.
You thought you were being more intelligent because you don’t do 5 and 6-leg parlays anymore, but playing those point spreads played right into the sportsbooks’ hands. I wish there were a safer way to parlay.
There are teasers.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay wager where the bettor can buy points to manipulate the betting odds or spread for at least two games. You can tease games with as little as 4 points added to a spread or total, or if you really want to play it safe, you can do 10 or 12-point teasers.
As you can imagine, these can get out of hand quickly, but not as fast as your confidence. Think about how confident you were putting in those bets last Sunday morning. Now, imagine adding 5 or 10 points to each side you already loved.
Finally, don’t forget to be strategic. My point is that you’re asking a lot from yourself.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
The basic strategy to tease NFL games is to use a 6-point teaser that takes you through the key numbers of 3 and 7. If you don’t know what a key number is, it represents a highly common margin of victory. The key number of 3 is the most key of them all, as more games end by exactly 3 points than by any other number.
If I want to tease an underdog up, we look for a team with betting odds of (+1.5) to (+2.5), and after we give them 6 points, we have new odds of (+7.5) to (+8.5).
To tease a betting favorite down, we look for teams with odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5). Then, after the 6 points, we have favorites below a field goal of (-1.5) to (-2.5).
Potential Week 3 NFL Teaser Games
Green Bay Packers (-7.5) at Cleveland Browns (+7.5) Total: 41.5
In this spot here, we’re looking at teasing the league darling Green Bay Packers down to favorites of just (-1.5) over the Browns in Cleveland. This seems like a no-brainer, the way the Pack has looked thus far in 2025, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-1.5) at New England Patriots (+1.5) Total: 44.5
The Pats are our first example of an underdog to tease up. I am staying away, though. Even though we have a home underdog with a good coach, the Steelers haven’t been great in a while, but they don’t stay down for long.
Last week’s failure in the 4th quarter will have Pittsburgh too hungry to bet against.
Houston Texans (+1.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars (-1.5) Total: 44
The Houston Texans may be 0-2 now after they let Baker Mayfield and the Bucs orchestrate the perfect two-minute drill against them, but they’re still a playoff-caliber team. If there was ever a buy-low spot on Houston, now is the time.
They lost by 5 to the Rams, who’ve looked incredible, and in the final seconds to the Bucs, another playoff-level team.
The Jags have looked better than they did last year, but are coming off a loss to the Burrow-less Bengals and have only beaten Carolina.
I understand that the Texans' wide receivers are banged up, but their defense is still lights out.
Arizona Cardinals (+1.5) at San Francisco 49ers (-1.5) Total: 44
If we want to include this NFC West matchup in our Week 3 basic strategy teaser, we need to target the Arizona Cardinals as a potential underdog to tease up. I want no part of it.
The last time these two teams met in January of this year, Arizona hung 47 on them. That is not forgotten, and with Mac Jones throwing with some confidence, watch out. I love the Niners (-1.5) at home this week.
Week 3 NFL Basic Strategy Teaser Pick
Green Bay Packers (-1.5) and Houston Texans (+7.5): -120
