Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 4: Basic Strategy Teasers

It's been a September to remember for fans of the NFL. We started with Week 1's 41-40 Sunday Night Football classic between the Bills and Ravens, and then moved on to Week 2's Super Bowl rematch. However, Sunday's field goal blocking fiasco was ludicrous.
I really do feel for those holding losing betting tickets after some of those bad beats. We were able to dodge most of it, but we still fell victim to one game, the Browns and the Packers.
We chose to tease the Pack down to favorites under a field goal. It was on the way until it wasn’t.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay bet where the person making the wager can manipulate the point spread or total in their favor. In return, of course, the sportsbooks adjust the payout accordingly.
We offer several types of teasers to choose from, ranging from a few points to as high as the sportsbooks are willing to go. I've seen them go into the teens.
It can get to be overwhelming. Now, a lot of sportsbooks want you to do 3-leg teasers as a minimum.
That’s not the case, though, with football teasers, particularly NFL teasers.
You can do two legs, but that's only the beginning of the simple yet effective and profitable strategy.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
The basic strategy for implementing NFL teasers is to start with a 6-point teaser with only two legs, as we mentioned earlier. Next, we want to ensure that we are teasing through and not just to the key numbers of 3, 6, and 7.
For example, if we want to tease an underdog up, we look for a team with betting odds of (+1.5) to (+2.5). After giving them 6 points, we have successfully teased the line through the three most common margins of victory. Now we have underdogs of (+7.5) to (+8.5).
Conversely, if we want to tease a betting favorite down under a field goal, we look for teams with odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5), and bring them down to (-1.5) to (-2.5).
Potential Week 4 NFL Teaser Games
Minnesota Vikings (-2.5) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (+2.5) Total: 41
This game will be the first kickoff on Sunday because we'll be in Ireland for this old-school NFL matchup between the storied franchises of the Minnesota Vikings and, to a greater extent, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Both of these teams come into this matchup at 2-1, but they may struggle to make the postseason this year. It's incredible what Kevin O'Connell has been able to do as a head coach.
Now, out of nowhere, comes Carson Wentz.
Guess what, though, you’re getting Mike Tomlin as a home underdog. That has been one of the most profitable betting trends of the past decade.
Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) at Kansas City Chiefs (+2.5) Total: 48.5
From Tomlin as a home underdog to Patrick Mahomes in the same trend? Should we stop here and create our teaser based solely on these trends?
Kansas City (+8.5) sounds pretty appealing, regardless of the opponent. Add in home-field advantage, and we could have a bet.
I just know that the Ravens have to be, forgive me for this one, raving mad, after losing to the Bills and the Lions, both by way of blown leads. With KC’s limitations on offense, though, it’s hard to back them here.
We also have to let the math work for us, rather than against us. We have a relatively high total of 48.5 for this game, while the next game has one under 40.
Tennessee Titans (+7.5) at Houston Texans (-7.5) Total: 39.5
Low point totals are prized in the teasing community because our 6 points account for a higher percentage of the total. The Texans were picked to win the division, but they look lost on offense. Their defense, though, is ferocious.
They haven't had time to wear down just yet, but it happened last year, and I would look for the same, just earlier this season.
The Texans are coming home to roast Tennessee in this spot. The Titans are a bad team, and Houston is a defensive powerhouse.
I think they win by double digits, but I'll take the (-1.5) to throw with another leg to make our teaser.

Houston Texans (-1.5) + Pittsburgh Steelers (+8.5): -120
