NFL fans have been treated to some wonderful coaching jobs in less than half a season so far in 2025. One example off the top of my head is San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. No team has had to deal with more injuries this year than the Niners, and he's held down the fort in NorCal as well as anyone.

There have been, of course, some terrible decisions under the headset. Take the Atlanta Falcons' Raheem Morris, for example. This guy is one of the worst coaches in the NFL and has been for a while. He's gotten away with it as of late because the Achilles heel of Kirk Cousins was to blame. Now, more of the heat is coming down on starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr than Morris. Bet on the 2025 Atlanta Falcons at your own risk.

That’s enough negativity for today, though. We’re here to celebrate the outstanding performances by head coaches thus far this year.

Also, it wouldn’t be a proper NFL Award article if we didn’t point out that the voters are looking for certain things. It’s not always about who was the best coach or the most successful that season.

The NFL’s Coach of the Year Award is one that the voters do not like to give out to the same coach more than once. It’s happened, of course, but not much, unless your name is Kevin Stefanski.

Much like the lack of hate for Morris we spoke of, I don’t understand how the coach of the Cleveland Browns could win this award once, much less twice.

If he can win it twice, then so can one of our betting favorites today, former Super Bowl-winning player and now first-year head coach for the New England Patriots, Mike Vrabel. The former linebacker won the award with the Tennessee Titans in 2021.

Only the 7-1 Indianapolis Colts' Shane Steichen has lower betting odds to win the Coach of the Year Award. What an incredible job he's done, not just this season but also the last two, having to deal with a busted 1st-round QB pick in Anthony Richardson.

It’s a sharp drop-off after those two, though, with some very strong names. I love the betting value on names like Mike McDonald and the previously mentioned Shanahan.

Best Bets to Win 2025 NFL Coach of the Year

Shane Steichen: +100

Steichen has the season so far and the story as well. The former UNLV quarterback actually got his start on NFL coaching staffs as a defensive assistant for the Chargers back in 2011. He eventually worked his way to offensive coordinator jobs with the Chargers and the Eagles before landing the lead role in Indy in 2023.

After a 17-17 start to his head coaching career in the NFL, Steichen has the Colts 7-1 and one of the most impressive teams in the league.

Throw a unit on Steichen and a quarter of a unit on some of the longer odds. 

Mike McDonald: +1400

While Steichen is getting all the love in our nation’s heartland, second-year head coach McDonald has the Seahawks soaring above the best division in football out west.

If the season ended now, sure, give it to Steichen, but we’re only halfway there, and McDonald has surprised a lot of us with how prepared his team is from week to week.

Also, I have a bit more faith in Sam Darnold than Daniel Jones.

Andy Reid: +6000

See, this is what I’m talking about. This award is weird. Future first ballot Hall of Famer Andy Reid has an ongoing dynasty that is arguably the best team in the NFL right now.

Reid has never even won the award with KC. He won it with Philadelphia once, and that’s it. The way this team is playing, we might only see them lose a couple more games.
