Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 6: Basic Strategy Teasers Advice

Sports betting has a funny way of humbling people, and the NFL is usually the one doing it. Week 5 was a perfect example, with the NFC East going winless, Jacksonville hitting a 57-yard field goal, sinking the Eagles in London, and the Packers embarrassing the Bears with a 24-point win margin. Favorites that looked practically bulletproof on paper came up short, and underdogs nobody trusted found ways to keep it close.
Teaser bets were built for weeks exactly like that. Moving a spread six points won’t turn a bad pick into a good one, but it does give bettors room to breathe when games come down to the final possession. We have seven Week 6 games that fit the basic strategy criteria, and the breakdown of each one, along with the best two-game combo. Let’s get down to it.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
Think of a teaser as a parlay where the bettor gets to adjust the numbers. Two or more games go on one ticket, and every spread shifts a set number of points in the bettor’s favor, with six being the most common. The trade-off comes at the payout, since the extra points mean a lower return, and losing a single leg still kills the entire ticket, like a regular parlay.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
The whole idea behind basic strategy teasers comes down to two numbers, 3 and 7. More NFL games end with those margins than any others, so a six-point teaser that moves a spread across both of them gives bettors the most protection for the price. Teased spreads that fall short of either number don’t qualify.
Picture Team A +2.5 points. After the tease, Team A sits at +8.5 and can drop the game by 3 or by 7 and still cash in. On the other side, Team B -7.5 points falls to -1.5 once teased, turning a touchdown spread into a simple win. Qualifying underdogs fall in the +1.5 to +2.5 range, and favorites need to be laying 7.5 to 8.5.
Be careful though, always make sure to keep an eye on the price before placing anything. A two-team, six-point teaser normally costs between -110 and -120, and anything worse than -120 wipes out most of the advantage that makes the bet worthwhile.
Potential Week 6 NFL Teaser Games
Seahawks (-2.5) at Broncos (+2.5) Total: 40.5
Denver has covered in three of five games, but their offense has been patchy, and they’re facing the league’s best pass defense on Thursday. A 40.5 total gives the Broncos +8.5 some cushion, but it isn’t an easy pick against a Seattle team looking to bounce back.
Steelers (-2.5) at Buccaneers (+2.5) Total: 39.5
Tampa Bay did shock Dallas last week with Jalen Daniels at quarterback, but Pittsburgh is a lot tougher than the Cowboys. Coming off a 34-22 win over the Colts, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers should be able to keep the candle lit against an injury-plagued Bucs team. Even at +8.5, I’m not too quick to grab this one.
Panthers (+1.5) at Eagles (-1.5) Total: 40.5
Three straight losses have exposed how sloppy the Eagles have been, while Carolina is second in the league in passing yards per game. Heading into a matchup with a Philadelphia pass defense that allows 238 yards through the air per game, Panthers +7.5 on the road is an option worth grabbing.
Saints (-1.5) at Giants (+1.5) Total: 45.5
All signs point to a sloppy game, with the Giants missing three field goals in last week’s tie and the Saints dropping three straight. Where New York does have an edge is on defense, ranking seventh in fewest passing yards allowed, and that matters against a pass-heavy New Orleans team that shies away from the run. Giants +7.5 at home is a pick I like.
Cowboys (+1.5) at Packers (-1.5) Total: 52.5
There’s a reason the total sits at 52.5, one of the highest of the weekend, since both teams like to play through the air. Still, I’m not convinced Dallas can keep this one as close as Vegas expects. Green Bay may have found their rhythm after demolishing Chicago 31-7, and staying home against a Cowboys team that can’t figure it out makes Dallas +7.5 a questionable one.
Jets (+7.5) at Patriots (-7.5) Total: 43.5
Fresh off a 45-17 beatdown of the Raiders, New England is 4-1 against the spread and gets a Jets team averaging just 18.6 points per game. Even in a divisional game, Patriots -1.5 at home is the obvious bang for your buck.
Commanders (+7.5) at 49ers (-7.5) Total: 50.5
Unbeaten at 5-0, the 49ers will host a Commanders team that blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in Week 5 and settled for a tie. While a 50.5 total cuts into the cushion, 49ers -1.5 still works as a backup option.
