The Philadelphia Eagles have strung together four straight seasons with 11 or more wins, going to the Super Bowl twice in that span and lifting the Lombardi Trophy in 2024. They have been the epitome of consistency with eight top-two finishes in the NFC East in the last nine seasons, as a physical core continues to find ways to win football games. However, an early playoff exit last year, coupled with a busy offseason spent working around salary cap constraints, has a passionate Eagles fanbase potentially concerned about the trajectory of this team. Can the Eagles put together another impressive season, or will a new contender emerge in the division this year?

Philadelphia Eagles Offseason Recap

The Eagles' string of strong seasons hasn’t stopped them from being aggressive in the offseason. After a few years of dealing with disgruntled superstar A.J. Brown, the Eagles finally let him go. His enormous cap hit being off the books helps, but replacing his talent will not be easy. Brown is a big, tall receiver with 1,000 or more yards in six of his seven seasons, and has always been a great safety blanket for Jalen Hurts. The 2028 first-round draft pick the Eagles got in return will help offset the pain, but that won’t help them this year. 

The Eagles promoted DeVonta Smith to WR1 and went on the hunt for more pass catchers. They traded up in the draft to snag Makai Lemon with the 20th overall selection, and he will slot in nicely alongside Smith. Lemon is an instinctive slot receiver who can make big plays in the middle of the field, as his route running is arguably his best aspect. The Eagles also picked up Dontayvion Wicks from the Packers, who could be the WR2 marginally ahead of Lemon. Wicks hasn’t really developed into the receiver he could have been, but the 25-year-old is still getting better, and the Eagles got him for cheap. Philadelphia also added both Elijah Moore and Hollywood Brown for receiving depth, giving them several options to step up in A.J. Brown’s wake. 

On the other side of the ball, there were big changes for the Eagles. Philadelphia lost Jaelan Phillips up front and linebacker Nakobe Dean, while their secondary also took major hits as starters Reed Blankenship and Sydney Brown left in the secondary. Those are four major defensive holes the Eagles will need to fill, as replacing quality talent at a low price is not easy to do. 

Philadelphia didn’t draft a defensive player until 244th overall, so they had to look elsewhere for cover. They primarily elected to promote within to fill the secondary, and made one major change at defensive line with Jonathan Greenard coming to town. Philadelphia traded a pair of third-round picks to secure his signature, and his arrival could determine how far the Eagles can go. Greenard put up 12 and 12.5 sacks in his two previous seasons before a down year in 2025, and the Eagles need him to regain his previous form, or they could be in trouble. 

2026 Philadelphia Eagles Season Expectations

The expectation in Philadelphia is for the Eagles to go on a deep playoff run that ends in a Super Bowl. They have strung together four straight excellent regular seasons with varying levels of playoff success, and this year should be no different. Their towering offensive line continues to allow them to play physical football in the trenches, and the infamous Tush Push is still in effect. The Eagles' ability to pick up key third-and-one and fourth-and-one conversions is often attributed to their success, but this team also does a lot right elsewhere. 

Their defense finished fifth in yards allowed and points per game last year after another excellent season. Their physicality on offense translated to the other side of the ball, and they finished the year with a +6 turnover differential. Unlike other defensive powerhouses, the Eagles relied on the entire team buying in rather than one superstar. Jalyx Hunt finished with a team-high 6.5 sacks, with ten players recording multiple sacks in 2025. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has done a great job of crafting this defense, and even with the departures, it would be shocking to see the Eagles slide out of the top 10. 

On offense, the jury is still out on how good Jalen Hurts is. His ability to deliver accurate passes has never been questioned, but any NFL quarterback can do that when given the pocket he has. Hurts has had a truly dominant offensive line for the last several seasons, allowing him to consistently get the ball out safely. He can also use his legs, not just for the Tush Push, to pick up first downs. Once you couple that with star running back Saquon Barkley, it is no surprise to see the Eagles consistently near the top of the standings. Barkley ‘only’ put up 1,140 rushing yards last year after his historic 2,000-yard season, but is still one of the premier weapons in the backfield. 

2026 Philadelphia Eagles Schedule Breakdown

Despite finishing on top of the NFC East last season, the Eagles have the seventh-easiest schedule in the NFL. They are the only division winner inside the top 10 for schedules, as other division winners Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Chicago are all expected to decline compared to last year. Once you couple that with a pair of mediocre division rivals in the Giants and Commanders, it is no surprise to see Philadelphia with an easier-than-average schedule. They open up the season against Washington at home before a pair of road games against the Bears and Titans. They then take on the Rams before heading to Europe to face the Jaguars, and then have four winnable matchups before their Week 10 bye. A tough home stretch could make or break their season, but the Eagles will be hoping they already have a playoff berth all but secured before then. 

2026 Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles have a win total of 10.5 this season and are the favorites to win the NFC East with +120 odds. The Eagles' playoff streak also appears to be safe with -180 odds to qualify, but stranger things have happened than the Eagles falling short. Looking ahead to the postseason, Philadelphia has the third-best odds to win the NFC at +850 behind the Seahawks and Rams, with respectable +1600 Super Bowl odds. 

In terms of individual awards, the Eagles have several contenders. Makai Lemon has the shortest odds to win silverware on the team with +1500 Offensive Rookie of the Year odds, as a high-end wide receiver on a strong team that just lost their WR1 is the perfect cauldron for success. However, he is not the only contender, as Jalen Carter for Defensive Player of the Year, Saquon Barkley for Offensive Player of the Year, and Jalen Hurts for MVP all have identical +2500 odds.

The Philadelphia Eagles have demonstrated high-end consistency over nearly a decade, something rarely seen in the NFL. While they will once again have a strong season, I just can’t quite get behind them at these odds. I think there could be value in them winning the NFC East at +120 as the Cowboys, Commanders, and Giants all have harder schedules, but it feels rightfully odd to take a division winner prop while expecting them to stay under their win total. Instead, we will keep it simple with the Eagles and take their under 10.5 wins at -140 odds. Philadelphia has an easy schedule, but I don’t think they did enough on defense to overcome their losses. Their offense unquestionably got worse as A.J. Brown left, and the whole league got another summer to study how to stop the Tush Push, and their defense also took a step back. Philadelphia has drafted exceptionally well on defense to offset their heavy salary cap allocation on offense, but there is no diamond in the rough this time around. The Eagles will have a strong season hovering around .500, but 10.5 wins is too much to ask for. If you are an Eagles lover, take their +120 division odds, and maybe we can both cash if they go 10-7 on top of a struggling NFC East, but I’m calling for a 9-8 finish.
