The Seattle Seahawks are entering the 2026 season as the reigning Super Bowl champions and are looking to join the Kansas City Chiefs as the only back-to-back winners in the last 20 years. Their incredible defense fueled their Super Bowl run while Sam Darnold finally silenced the critics with the victory. However, Seattle doesn’t come into the season as the Super Bowl favorites, and they aren’t even favored to win their own division. Can the Seahawks lift the Lombardi Trophy again, or will they have a Super Bowl hangover from a magical season?

Seattle Seahawks Offseason Recap

The Seattle Seahawks had a relatively quiet offseason coming off their Super Bowl victory. Their defense was remarkable last year; they had the splashy offensive pieces needed to succeed, and running it back with a similar squad was a reasonable course of action. 

However, the punishment for everyone playing well is that everyone wants a raise, and the Seahawks were forced to make some tough choices on who to let go. The biggest departure from Seattle is Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III. Walker ran for more than 1,000 yards in the regular season last year while chipping in 31 catches on 36 targets in the receiving game. His explosiveness in the backfield was a big reason why the Seahawks offense thrived in the postseason as he tacked on more than 400 all-purpose yards combined in the Seahawks’ three playoff games. His ball security was also a major selling point with just one fumble on 286 carries, and he will be a difficult man to replace.

The Seahawks will need Zach Charbonnet to step up this year, and they also have first-round draft pick Jadarian Price waiting in the wings. Price was taken with the final pick of the first round and was the second running back off the board. Price has elite speed and not too many miles on his body from college, but his fumbling concerns and struggles in the receiving game limit his immediate upside. 

On defense, the Seahawks were a bit more active as edge rusher Boye Mafe, corner Riq Woolen, and safety Coby Bryant all left in free agency. Bryant is Seattle's biggest loss, as he is the only defensive starter from the Super Bowl not returning, but the Seahawks have enough support in the secondary to cover for his absence. They also added Trevon Diggs for more depth, although it still remains to be seen if Diggs can return to his form from a few years ago. Dante Fowler Jr. comes in as an edge rusher after logging 10.5 sacks with Washington in 2024, leveling out Mafe’s departure. The Seahawks had an offseason in which they plugged the holes they created, but are ultimately running it back with a very similar roster to last year.

2026 Seattle Seahawks Season Expectations

It is hard to say what the expectations are in Seattle. They were +6500 to win the Super Bowl heading into the season last year before defying the odds with a historic victory. As with any reigning Super Bowl champion, another deep playoff run is expected, but the Seahawks will now be the team to beat on everyone's schedule. 

On offense, Sam Darnold threw for 25 touchdowns with more than 4,000 passing yards, but he also threw 15 interceptions. A stellar defense that generated turnovers of its own bailed Darnold out, but he won’t be able to rely on that again. The Seahawks escaped with enough wins to claim the top seed in the NFC last year thanks to several clutch victories, but the story may not be the same in 2026. Darnold’s floor has certainly risen after his Super Bowl win, but he is still not the difference maker needed to carry a team to a Super Bowl. Darnold didn’t hurt the Seahawks last year, and he probably won’t this year, but the rest of Seattle’s lineup will need to once again be elite. Walker no longer in the backfield is a huge loss, and while Jaxson Smith-Njigba is one of the best receivers in the league, he can't do it without adequate protection for Darnold and an accurate pass in his vicinity. 

The Seahawks didn’t become Super Bowl champions thanks to their offense; it was their defense. Seattle allowed a league-low 17.2 points per game last year, and just 15.3 PPG across their three playoff games. They sent the league a message with their 41-6 annihilation of the 49ers in the divisional round, but they had been dominating teams all year long. Aside from their 38-37 overtime win against the Rams in the regular season and their 31-27 thriller in the NFC Championship Game, the Seahawks allowed 0, 9, 16, 10, 3, 6 (Divisional Game), and 13 (Super Bowl) points across their final nine games of the season. Holding teams under 20 points is always going to be a recipe for success in the NFL, and the Seahawks will look to do the same this year. 

What makes the Seattle defense special is that it is not one man dominating, surrounded by a bunch of other solid players. Byron Murphy, Leonard Williams, and Uchenna Nwosu led the Seahawks with seven sacks each, with a total of 17 players recording at least half a sack. Ten different players also intercepted a pass, while ten NFL teams had single-digit interception totals last year. It is also not as if the Seahawks defense is suddenly older and going to be fading out; if anything, they are just now hitting their prime. 

2026 Seattle Seahawks Schedule Breakdown

The Seahawks have a very average schedule this year in terms of difficulty. They have a slightly easier-than-average schedule based on last year’s records, but a slightly harder-than-average schedule based on projected 2026 win totals. They open up the season on a Wednesday in a Super Bowl rematch against the Patriots, with their other two extra games against division winners being against the Bears and Panthers. They have to go through the Rams and 49ers twice in their division, but also get some free wins against the Cardinals. Five home games in six weeks starting in October will eventually be followed by three of their final four games on the road. Two of their last three are against the Rams, which could ultimately decide the NFC West divisional crown. 

2026 Seattle Seahawks Betting Odds

The Seahawks have a win total of 10.5 this year and are -320 favorites to make the playoffs. However, the oddsmakers are expecting them to be an elite Wild Card team as the Rams are -110 favorites to win the NFC West while the Seahawks come in behind at +220. Looking further, Seattle has +600 odds to win the NFC, only trailing Los Angeles, with +1100 odds to repeat as Super Bowl champions. 

In terms of individual silverware, Jadarian Price is one of the favorites to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at +600. With Walker out of the picture and Charbonnet yet to prove he can handle a large workload, the stage is set for Price to emerge as a premier talent during his rookie season. Jaxson Smith-Njigba won the Offensive Player of the Year award last season with 1,793 receiving yards, and is among the favorites at +1800 this season. Finally, Sam Darnold is +2500 to win MVP, the 14th-shortest in the league. 

2026 Seattle Seahawks Season Predictions and Best Bets

I made one of the most impressive calls of the season last year by taking the Seahawks to win the NFC at +3000 odds. They had better odds to finish with the worst regular-season record, but we took a shot, and it paid off. 

Looking at this season, I am far less bullish on Seattle. I do think they deserve to be right in the mix of Super Bowl contenders, but I can’t argue they are severely mispriced compared to what we got last year. The +1100 Super Bowl odds seem fair, and I would rather attack them in the regular season than the playoffs. 

For the first pick, we will take Seattle to go over 10.5 wins at -110 odds. They stormed to a 14-3 record last year, and didn’t change much this offseason. They got marginally worse by losing Walker on offense and Bryant on defense, but they are still a truly elite unit. Sam Darnold will continue to silence any naysayers, while this defense will continue to turn up on a weekly basis. This isn’t a team that has had a decade of sustained success at risk of taking their foot off the gas, and I expect them to come out firing in the season opener. 

For the second pick, let’s take some plus money on Seattle to win the NFC West at +220 odds. The Rams deserve to be favorites, but -110 vs +220 odds is far too wide a gap. Seattle already proved they are the best team in the league by beating Los Angeles with the division on the line in the regular season and in the NFC Championship Game en route to their Super Bowl win. Los Angeles will also be very good, but I can't remember the last time we were getting a +220 price tag on the reigning Super Bowl champions to win their division.
