I'm expecting two different mindsets for these two teams in this game. The Browns are also dealing with a quarterback battle right now, and that should lead to good QB play and aggressive play calling from them in this one. On the other side of things, the Philadelphia Eagles are down their top two quarterbacks right now due to injuries. New coach Matt Patricia has lost both of his preseason games so far, and I think he will be very motivated to get his first win. Tampa Bay has won both of its preseason games on the road. I don't think they will be very motivated to get this win. Tampa Bay is now 5-0 ATS going back to the end of last year. But I don't think that they will care much about this game. This team had to deal with some injuries already this week, and I think that Tampa Bay will be more worried about protecting its top players. Detroit is 6-0 ATS in their last six games in Tampa Bay, and they are 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings. The road team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these two teams. The Houston pass rush has looked solid, and they will get all over the Rams regardless of who is under center. One thing to consider in this matchup is the scoreline from last year. Yes, this is the preseason, but players don't forget when they get their rear ends handed to them, which is exactly what the Rams did to the Texans last year. LA beat Houston down last year 33-7. I think the 49ers will keep rolling this week. They are No. 1 in the NFL in total yards this preseason, racking up 421 per game. But they have turned that into only 37 points. I think they will be more efficient here against a struggling Colts defense. Indianapolis has been shoddy on offense. But I think that they will ramp things up a bit after losing their last home game on MNF against the Ravens. Frank Reich is an offensive guy, and I can see him giving his starters a full half - if not more - to get into a groove. They had a bunch of drops against the Ravens, along with three turnovers and two turnovers inside the 10-yard line, and I think the Colts will be much better on Saturday. There is also this amazing stat: dating back to last season the Colts have gone 'under' in 10 straight games. Ten in a row! That's incredible and a total anomaly. I can see this one around 26-23 or 27-20, one way or another, and I see this one beating the total. The Cowboys are 0-2 thus far in NFL Preseason, and they will be motived to win this dress rehearsal game. Nola has an ERA of just 1.97 the last 30 days overall with opponents hitting .198 against him, and I expect another solid start from him Thursday. The Phillies have hit just .192 as a team lifetime against Scherzer, and opponents have hit just .183 against Scherzer at home this season leaving him with an ERA of 2.35 over his 14 starts at home. Scherzer has an ERA of just 1.13 since the all-star break with opponents hitting .188 against him, and he has an ERA of just .045 over his last 3 starts (20 innings) with opponents hitting just .171 against him. I don't think many people thought that Philadelphia would be in this position so late in the season, but winning games like these is the exact reason why the Phillies brought in Jake Arrieta. The Phillies have lost the last three starts Arrieta has made, but that hasn't been his fault. Arrieta has allowed 1 run or less in two of those starts, and his offense has supported him with just 6 runs over those 3 contests. Sean Reid-Foley has not been very good in his two starts for the Blue Jays allowing 6 and 3 earned runs respectively without lasting more than 5 innings in each. I think Philadelphia's offense will be able to put up enough runs to allow Arrieta to pick up a win.
