Take Dallas Cowboys ‘Under’ 10.5 Wins (-130)

The Cowboys lived a charmed life last year. It’s not going to happen for them again this year. In fact, I think it is going to be a bumpy ride for The Boys and I think that this season is going to lead to Mike McCarthy’s ouster. Offensively, this team is rotting away. Their receiver room has been decimated by injuries and defections. And if anything happens to CeeDee Lamb then this team is out of playmakers in the passing game. The core strength of this squad over the last decade has been a dominating offensive line. The Cowboys no longer have that. Their line is still solid, but not Top 5 in the league and depth is a concern. Defensively, the Cowboys should be very good. Their linebackers are excellent and their secondary has improved each of the last few years. However, much like on offense with Lamb the defense is almost solely relying on Micah Parson’s staying healthy. If he doesn’t, things can go sideways quickly. I don’t like banking on teams that are that overreliant on so few players. Especially guys that are in just their second and third seasons. Further, the Cowboys posted a plus-14 turnover differential last year. I don’t see them being in that stratosphere again. Those turnovers helped them post offensive and defensive yards per point that now fall in a range that screams regression. On top of that, the 20-year trend of half the teams that made the playoffs one year failing to do so the next year has me thinking that Dallas is one of those squads that is going to flop. I think that all three teams in the NFC East have improved and I think Philadelphia is going to be the top dog in this group. Add it all together and I see the Cowboys a lot closer to 9-8 than I do 11-6. This is an easy ‘under’ call. It seems just like yesterday the hire of Lincoln Riley as head coach would change USC’s fortunes and they would again dominate the Pac-12. Riley has already changed the trajectory of USC recruiting-wise, but that doesn’t mean the prior players are automatically going to be studs because of a coaching change. Hard to imagine this Tampa Bay Buccaneers team is taking this NFL preseason seriously as this veteran group don't have their leader Tom Brady and the ultimate goal for this SB contender is to get into the regular season without any injuries. The Bucs faced this Tennessee team last year in the preseason and they got hammered losing by a 34-3 score and I think we see similar type things in this one. The Titans were in a tough spot last week on the road in Baltimore against a Ravens organization that takes the preseason more serious than probably any team in the NFL. Tennessee hung around in that one leading at one point but they were done in during the 2nd half of the contest. Rookie quarterback Malik Willis showed some unique things in that game especially with his feet and keep in mind that the NFL preseason is set up for mobile quarterbacks like Willis to have lots of success. Alexander has made 22 appearances this season (20 starts) and the Dodgers have lost just 5 of those. Garrett’s offense has not helped him much recently as they have scored just 1 run in each of his last three starts and I think the results could be similar in this one.
