Week 12 of the NFL season is filled with basic strategy teaser action. And after last Sunday's games went a perfect 3-0, now might be the time to jump on board and use the power of the bet. A basic strategy teaser is a two-team, six-point teaser that uses the power of NFL key numbers, which are the most common margins of victory, to move certain spreads around the three- and seven-point mark. This week's action has five NFL games that qualify with all underdogs being moved up past seven points. Let's take a closer look at the games and figure out the best way to wager on each one.
Thanksgiving Day: Detroit Lions vs Philadelphia Eagles
Six-point teaser: Lions +7.5
Neither of these teams is any good, but Detroit is coming off two solid wins against Green Bay and Oakland, while Philadelphia has lost two straight. Nationally-televised games are huge affairs where each team wants to showcase their best stuff; now magnify that pressure by 10 because the entire United States will be watching these Thanksgiving games.. You can't really rely on either squad, but 7.5 points is a lot to give up if you are the Eagles. Detroit is ranked eighth in offensive passing yards and should have enough firepower to stay close in this game. Prognosis: this isn't a great teaser, but if you are looking to be in action on Thanksgiving then taking the Lions on the adjusted line is a solid option.
Thanksgiving Day: Dallas Cowboys vs Carolina Panthers
Spread: Dallas +2
Six-point teaser: Dallas +8
Tony Romo is back, and the Cowboys might have life in a horrible NFC East. There is no debating the undefeated pedigree of Carolina, but Dallas is at home and has both Romo and Dez Bryant in the lineup, so a cover at the very least is likely. Many NFL experts are already picking this as the upset play of the week. Carolina will probably lose a game soon, and Dallas feels like the perfect team to hand over that loss. Prognosis: Dallas has all the tools to keep this game close and may even win outright. Take the points.
Minnesota Vikings at Atlanta Falcons
Spread: Vikings +2.5
Six-point teaser: +8.5
There is no need to overact to Minnesota's loss to Green Bay last week. The Packers were never going to keep losing, and they still have a talented core despites their many flaws. The Vikings, in a similar fashion, are a very good team with some flaws. They might not be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, but the team covers spreads and wins games. Atlanta, on the other hand, has lost three straight games and four out of five. This is a spot that screams value for Minnesota. Prognosis: Adrian Peterson is on pace for another MVP-like year, and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater continues to improve. Take the points.
The Rest
Washington Redskins vs New York Giants
Spread: Redskins +2
Six-point teaser: Redskins +8
Tennessee Titans vs Oakland Raiders
Spread: Titans +2
Six-point teaser: Titans +8
The only team in this mix of basic strategy teaser games with a .500 record is the Giants, while the other three are a combined 10-20. The trouble with bad teams is that anything can happen when they play each other, and no outcome would be shocking-a close game, a blowout, a shocking collapse; almost anything is in play. The simplest wager is to take the points on both situations with home teams receiving eight points worth of action. Neither of these two teasers are great, but they are solid and a decent way to stay in action over the weekend.
