Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 9: Basic Strategy Teasers Advice

Home-field advantage came back in style in Week 8, with home teams going 10-3. Detroit handed Minnesota their first loss of the season, and Cincinnati outlasted Tennessee 43-36 in overtime. Denver also improved to 4-0 at home with a comeback win over Kansas City. Anyone who rode road teams last weekend probably wants a do-over.
Week 9 isn’t nearly as generous for teaser bettors. Two games fit the basic strategy criteria, with two more sitting a half-point away, and I’ve got the breakdown on all four, plus the two-team combo to ride into the weekend. Sit back, relax, and let’s dive into the top option for a Week 9 NFL basic teaser.

What is a Teaser?
A teaser takes the parlay concept and hands bettors a few extra points on every game. Two or more spreads go on a single ticket, each moving a set number of points in the bettor’s favor, with six being the most common. That means underdogs get more points, and favorites have fewer to lay. All that cushion lowers the payout, and if one game misses, like a parlay, the entire betting slip is garbage.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
Teasing any random spread is a quick way to burn money. Basic strategy avoids that with one simple rule: the six points have to move the spread through both 3 and 7, because those are the two most common margins of victory in the NFL.
Here’s how it plays out. Say Team A is getting 1.5 points. After the tease, they’re at +7.5, and a three- or seven-point loss still makes it a winner. Team B starts as an 8.5-point favorite and drops to -2.5, needing a field goal instead of more than a touchdown. Anything from +1.5 to +2.5 on the underdog side, or -7.5 to -8.5 on the favorite side, makes the cut.
The final piece is cost. Sportsbooks generally price a two-team, six-point teaser between -110 and -120, and once it creeps past -120, the advantage disappears.
Potential Week 9 NFL Teaser Games
Browns (+1.5) at Saints (-1.5) Total: 42.5
Nothing went right for Cleveland in a 27-6 loss at Pittsburgh. Still sitting at 5-3, the Browns now face a 2-5 New Orleans team that’s fresh off a bye and gives up 27.7 points per game. Putting Cleveland on a ticket at +7.5 could be a reasonable option against a defense this sloppy.
Broncos (-2.5) at Panthers (+2.5) Total: 43.5
Momentum is easily on Denver’s side, with four straight wins and a 6-2 record. Look closer, though, and three of those four wins came by six points or fewer. Carolina has dropped two straight, but their passing game still ranks ninth in yards per game, which should be enough to keep them in it.
Panthers +8.5 at home gives them more than a touchdown of cushion against a team that keeps winning tight games, making it a solid tease this week.
Packers (+2.5) at Patriots (-2.5) Total: 46.5
Green Bay has won three of their last four, and they walk into New England as underdogs against a Patriots team that let 1-6 Miami stay close in a 24-19 win. Teased up to +8.5, the Packers can lose by a field goal or a touchdown and still be a winner, making this a fairly reliable pick for Week 9.
Giants (-2.5) at Eagles (+2.5) Total: 39.5
An NFC East rivalry plagued by quarterback issues makes it obvious why this total sits at 39.5, the lowest of the week. Philadelphia has dropped six straight, and even with the low total helping a tease, Eagles +8.5 is hard to trust against a Giants team coming off a bye. I’m skeptical of putting the Eagles on any ticket this week.
