Cam Jurgens Trade to Baltimore: Betting Impact for Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles traded two-time Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick. This is a massive mid-season trade for both franchises as Jurgens will instantly slot in at center for Baltimore, while the Eagles got a surprisingly strong return for the 27 year old who was having a mediocre season this year.

Cam Jurgens has been a mainstay of the Eagles’ offensive line for the last four-plus seasons since being drafted and is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances. His mobility in the run game was a big reason why Saquon Barkley found so much success in an Eagles uniform, as Jurgens has a rare amount of agility for a 303-pound lineman. The infamous Tush Push in Philadelphia is a sum of the strengths of several offensive linemen, but there is no denying the impact Jurgens had on the success of that play. He can struggle in picking up assignments with pass protection, but the impact he has elsewhere more than compensates for that weakness. Jurgens is in concussion protocol and is expected to miss Week 5 but will be ready to go for Baltimore’s Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
In terms of the price tag, the Eagles have to be happy with their return. A 2028 second-round pick will help them as the salary cap dead money they have pushed down the road will force them to focus on cheap contracts in the future, and there is plenty of talent left in the second round at non-skill positions. Jurgens had been struggling this year, but a small sample size shouldn’t erase what he has done over the last two seasons. A second and a fifth round pick is a bit steep, but for the Ravens, it was a move that had to be made if they wanted to save their season after a slew of injuries.
For Baltimore…
The Ravens entered the season without Tyler Linderbaum at center after he went to Las Vegas, and the heart of the offensive line quickly became a disaster when Danny Pinter tore his patellar tendon during training camp. Things appeared to be under control with backups Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn filling in admirably, but when both went down with multi-week injuries in their Week 3 win over the Cowboys, they needed to make a move.
The Ravens’ offensive line has struggled all season. And were it not for the mobility from Lamar Jackson, they could be right at the bottom in terms of sacks. The injuries have had an impact, which has also forced a lot of shuffling on the line. First-round draft pick Olaviavage Ioane is an excellent right guard, and he was forced to slide over to center in Week 3 and 4 with the aforementioned injuries. The addition of Jurgens will allow him to go back to his preferred position and help shore up a struggling unit.
For Philadelphia…
The Eagles offense is crumbling before our eyes. Jalen Hurts does his best work in the short passing game and when he can get his legs involved up the gut, and all of a sudden he is alone on an island. Saquon Barkley is out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury, Lane Johnson just retired midseason to focus on his mental health, and now the Eagles have let go of Jurgens when they seemingly need him most.
The Eagles still have an average or slightly above-average offensive line, but they are nowhere near the dominant unit they have been in previous seasons. Admittedly, Jurgens has struggled since moving to left guard in Philadelphia, but he plays his best football at center and would’ve still been an upgrade on the right side of the line with Johnson no longer in the picture. This leaves the Eagles with Jordan Mailata at left tackle as the only recognizable name left on the roster, and could severely impact the effectiveness of their short yardage gains. Philadelphia has been an average team on offense when they can pretty much automatically convert any third or fourth-and-short situations, and now we could see them severely struggle without Jurgens in the mix.
Best Bets after Cam Jurgens Trade to Baltimore Ravens:
There are a few ways we can attack this trade on the betting market. Starting with Baltimore, they are currently -190 to win the AFC North, -700 to make the playoffs, and have +900 Super Bowl odds, the joint-fourth shortest in the league. The addition of Jurgens doesn’t really move the needle forward, but it certainly stops them from falling behind with the injuries piling up. Baltimore has been notorious for avoiding midseason moves up until now, and this could be a sign of things to come as they look to squeeze out a Super Bowl before Jackson is past his prime.
On the other hand, this is the perfect time to sell on the Eagles. Philadelphia is +170 to win the NFC East, with the Cowboys (+105), Giants (+550), and Commanders (+1100) rounding out the division. If this is the beginning of an Eagles rebuild, grabbing any of their division mates at current prices could be the way to go. Dallas is looking dominant on offense, and even a sprinkle on Washington with Jayden Daniels set to return could be worth it at +1100. I am not too high on the Giants this year, even after trading for JJ McCarthy, as they lack the offense needed to take advantage of a strong defense. Take the Cowboys to win the division at +105, but the best bet you can make is for the Eagles to miss the playoffs at -155 odds. Philadelphia has the sixth-hardest remaining schedule this year, and a 2-2 start with wins over the 0-4 Titans and 1-3 Commanders by a combined six points is far from impressive. They head to London to take on the Jaguars, which is almost certainly a loss, which means these -155 odds won’t be around for long.
Pick: Dallas Cowboys to Win the NFC East +105
Top Pick: Philadelphia Eagles to Miss the Playoffs -155
