The New York Giants have gone a combined 7-27 over the last two seasons, but there is reason for optimism this season. A young core combined with an experienced head coach has the playoffs back in sight, but a lot has to go right before the Giants will be back to the Super Bowl. Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo have already become fan favorites, but can their on-field production match their off-field popularity? Let’s dive in.

New York Giants Offseason Recap

The New York Giants made a flurry of moves in the offseason in an attempt to catapult them out of their rebuild. They kicked things off by hiring John Harbaugh as their new head coach. Harbaugh spent the last 18 years as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, finishing with a 180-113 regular-season record and a Super Bowl in 2012. His pedigree speaks for itself, and he looks to be the perfect man to lead the Giants' rise back to contention. He is demanding, but truly believes the team is a family and treats every member as such. The Giants have been missing unity for the last several seasons, and with several likeable players on board, Harbaugh just might be the missing piece in New York. 

At the 2026 NFL Draft, the Giants got aggressive by trading Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals for the 10th overall pick. After taking linebacker Arvell Reese fifth overall, the Giants opted to swap out an All-Pro pass rusher for a sturdy offensive lineman with Francis Mauigoa at 10th overall. Reese will help fill the hole Lawrence is leaving behind, while Mauigoa will help keep Dart upright more often this year. Losing Lawrence is a massive blow in the short term; there is no doubt about that, but if the Giants' two top-ten picks pan out, this will turn out to be an excellent draft day move. 

The Giants also opted to freshen up their receiving room by letting Wan’Dale Robinson go to Tennessee while signing Darnell Mooney from the Atlanta Falcons. Mooney has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards twice in the last five years, but failed to reach 500 yards in the other three seasons. He is the textbook example of a boom-or-bust wide receiver, and considering he signed just a one-year deal, he is a great gamble for the Giants. They also brought in Odell Beckham Jr. in a legendary reunion, but the reality is that Beckham Jr. doesn’t have much left in the tank at 33 and will be deep on the depth chart by the time Week 1 rolls around. 

2026 New York Giants Season Expectations

The Giants closed out the year on a two-game win streak after starting 2-13, and the expectations are quite high for New York considering what went down last year. The best ability in the NFL is availability, and the Giants will primarily hope their core stays healthy. Jaxson Dart missed a couple of games due to injury last year, while both Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers suffered season-ending injuries in the first half of the season. A strong draft class and their top two skill position players coming back is a recipe for success, and the loyal Giants fanbase will be expecting meaningful January football sooner rather than later. 

How New York does this season could come down to the play of Jaxson Dart. Dart has plenty of upside with his accuracy and his legs, but his intangibles remain a concern. His ability to make high-quality reads after the snap still needs plenty of work, and he looked like a college star trying to blend into the NFL last season. His first real offseason with the team combined with Harbaugh’s guidance could help this problem go away, but Dart still looks on track to make several game-ending mistakes this season. His personality and swagger will help keep the fans quiet for a while, but the Giants are expected to compete this season. If the losses start piling up early, the Giants could be in for a rude awakening. 

On the other side of the ball, there are still major concerns for New York. The Giants traded away their best defensive lineman for an offensive guard, although Lawrence only logged 17 tackles and half a sack across 17 games. Brian Burns led the way with a whopping 16.5 sacks, but no other Giant had more than four sacks. Arvell Reese will be hoping to add his name to the list of great Giants pass rushers, but the Giants still need more to truly contend. Their defense finished 25th in yards allowed last season, and it is hard to say many of their offseason moves had a significant impact on moving the needle. Maybe Harbaugh can develop talents from within, but the Giants lack depth outside of a few defensive stars.

2026 New York Giants Schedule Breakdown

The Giants have a middle-of-the-pack schedule in terms of last year’s win percentages, but have the ninth-hardest schedule based on this year’s projections. There are no easy games in the NFC East, while the Giants also have to go through arguably the hardest division in football against the NFC West. New York also takes on the AFC South this year, while their three extra games against other last-place teams are tough matchups with the Lions, Saints, and Browns. 

They open up the year against the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, before a Monday night showdown against the Los Angeles Rams. New York will be expected to lose both of those games, but they then take on the Titans, Cardinals, Commanders, and Saints, three of which are at home. The Giants need to stack wins early if they are serious about making the playoffs, as things get much tougher in the second half. They close out the year against the 49ers, Seahawks, Browns, Lions, Cowboys, and Eagles, all of whom are above-average teams this year aside from one (sorry Cleveland). We will learn a lot about the Giants in the first month of the season, and whether or not their patient rebuild will pay off. 

2026 New York Giants Betting Odds

The New York Giants are expected to be right back in playoff contention this year with a 7.5 win total. That puts them third in the NFC East, where they have +550 odds to come out on top. However, they have shorter odds to make the playoffs with a +260 price tag, as their most likely path is with a Wild Card spot. If they do make the playoffs, New York has +3300 odds to win the NFC and +6500 odds to win the Super Bowl. On the flip side, if things do not go to plan for New York, they have +2200 odds to finish with the worst regular-season record. 

In terms of individual awards, John Harbaugh is the outright favorite to win Coach of the Year at +600 during his first season with the Giants. A remarkable turnaround for New York would likely hand him this award, as he is already a household name yet has only won this award once back in 2019. Elsewhere, Arvell Reese is one of the favorites to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at +850, while Brian Burns is sixth in Defensive Player of the Year odds at +2500.

The New York Giants have expertly rebuilt their team and will be back in contention soon, but they are still one year away from making the leap. Trading away Lawrence for a draft pick signals that this franchise will be patient with the rebuild, and it may take more than one season for Harbaugh to really imprint his coaching style on this roster. Dart, Nabers, and Skattebo all have a history of injuries, and if any one of them goes down again, a .500 record for New York would be quite the stretch. The Giants have a tough schedule with limited defensive depth, and their offense isn’t quite developed enough to make up for a bottom-half, or even bottom-third defense. The NFC is as challenging as ever, and 7.5 wins after going 4-13 last season without too many major upgrades is a lot to ask. 

Not only will I take the Giants to finish under 7.5 wins, but I will also look for some plus money on them to come last in the NFC East at +165. Dallas and Philadelphia should be in a league of their own, leaving the Commanders as the biggest threat to the Giants' bottom spot. Washington has flaws of its own, but they have the more complete, veteran roster compared to the Giants' lack of depth. I always like chasing plus money for season-long futures, and I like the value on this prop over an alternative win total.
