Week 6 of the NFL season is filled with multiple basic strategy teaser options on the board. And now that the year is beginning to take form with the bad teams falling behind and the good ones making themselves known, there will be plenty of opportunities to find great wagers and situations to bet on. Let's take a closer look at this week's four basic strategy teaser options and figure out the best way to wager on each game. Here is a rundown on what makes up a basic strategy teaser.
New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts
Spread : Patriots -8.5
Six-point teaser : Patriots -2.5
New England is coming off a basic strategy teaser game last week against Dallas where the team easily covered the 7.5-point spread moved down to 1.5. The line ballooned up during the middle of the week into double-digit land and out of the teaser territory, but a few bettors may have taken advantage of the early line. For Week 6 the Patriots are again a great teaser option, but jump on it quickly because the line is bound to go up again, particularly if Andrew Luck does not play.
This matchup is filled with context and underlining animosity because Indianapolis is where the "Deflategate" story broke during last year's playoffs. You would be crazy to think that Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and owner Robert Kraft are not holding a grudge. Expect New England to run up the score and destroy the Colts this week. Prognosis: strongest teaser of the week. Take New England.
Buffalo Bills versus Cincinnati Bengals
Spread : Bills +2.5
Six-point teaser : Bills +8.5
Cincinnati is coming off a huge overtime victory over Seattle in a matchup most experts expected them to lose. The Bengals, however, looked great, and Andy Dalton is already earning some early MVP love. With that being said, Cincinnati has not blown teams out of the water and already has three five-point-or-fewer victories on its resume in five weeks of play. Buffalo, despite a few inconsistencies, has looked like a possible playoff contender and one of those teams that bring a fight each and every time they play. Prognosis: this feels like another strong teaser in Buffalo's favor. They may not win the game, but 8.5 points and home-field advantage should be enough to cover.
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
Spread : Bears +2.5
Six-point teaser : Bears +8.5
Surprisingly, Detroit is the last winless team left in the NFL. Nothing seems to be working for the Lions at the moment, and a visit from the Chicago Bears isn't even a surefire victory for the team. Chicago is only 2-3 at the moment and has already looked horrible during a few games, but the squad's defense is solid and currently ranked fourth in total yards allowed and third in passing yards-two areas where Detroit has struggled. Prognosis: this isn't a great teaser because neither team is any good. This matchup is almost a must-win for Detroit. The best option is probably to skip this game.
San Francisco 49ers versus Baltimore Ravens
Spread : 49ers +2.5
Six-point teaser : 49ers +8.5
Baltimore is a complete mess. And after last week's home loss to Cleveland, is there any reason to trust them in a road matchup against San Francisco as a favorite? The 49ers nearly pulled off an upset over the Giants on Sunday night, while quarterback Colin Kaepernick looked far better than he has all season. San Francisco isn't in much better shape than Baltimore, but the team is receiving +8.5 points on this teaser against an inept Ravens squad. What is not to love about this situation? Prognosis: this feels like a solid teaser for San Francisco. These are two bad teams, but one is at home and has looked better than the other.
Last Week's Record: 2-1
Overall Record: 8-10
