Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 13: Basic Strategy Teasers

I am thankful for my health, "my sanity", as well as NFL betting, as tricky as it can be most of the time. If this were easy, then everybody would do it. I personally take a great deal of pride in predicting the future.
It sounds silly, and I don’t want you to think I actually believe that, but it reminds me of this quote from my in-law ascendant, the late great Thomas Jefferson. One of my “greatest” uncles married his sister.
Jefferson said, “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.”
That sounds great, unc, but I'm almost positive you never tried your hand at NFL betting.
So, “luck” or “predicting the future” each sounds silly as business models. However, if you put the work in, or simply let someone like me do it for you, you could still barely break even on a good day.
I'm just keeping it 100 for you guys. I've been on fire lately, scorching hot, yet I know that I could go ice cold for weeks. A lot of data goes into making these point spreads. As much as we humans work at this, AI is grinding too. We are up against it.
My point is, sometimes we have an edge in a game, and we stick to our guns and play it out. For example, I don't like betting favorites at (-7), but I felt the Rams and Niners would cover. Los Angeles did easily, and if Brock Purdy doesn't throw three 1st half interceptions, San Francisco would have had an even easier time against the overrated Panthers.
For every “easy” win we have in NFL betting, it seems like the other 80% of the time we win, it takes some serious luck.
What if I told you there was a way to add points to a spread or total in what’s called a teaser bet?
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay wager. The bettor can take two or more games and give either the spread or total more points. In return, the sportsbooks decrease your payout significantly, but that's fine.
Despite what your friends or some charlatan on YouTube might tell you, parlays are generally bad bets.
Two teams at (-110) each parlayed together pays out at (+264). On paper, that sounds great. We can find two games each week that we like and parlay them. We only need to win 1 of 3 to return 21% on our investment.
Unfortunately, it seldom works out this way. Those point spreads are sharp. This is where the teaser bet comes in, but with so many potential legs and amounts of points to add, it can be overwhelming. We need a basic strategy. Thankfully, we already have one.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
Part of the basic strategy is to use only 2-leg, 6-point teasers for NFL games. That's easy enough, right?
We want to tease through the key numbers of 3, 6, and 7. A key number represents a highly common margin of victory. As you may know, 3 is the most common point differential in the NFL, with 7 and 6 the next two most likely.
To do this, we look for betting underdogs with odds of (+1.5) to (+2.5) and tease them up over a touchdown to (+7.5) to (+8.5). Inversely, if we want to tease a betting favorite down, we look for games with favorites of (-7.5) to (-8.5) and take them down under a field goal to (-1.5) to (-2.5).
Potential Week 13 Teaser Games
Green Bay Packers (+2.5) at Detroit Lions (-2.5) Total: 49
We usually have more than three options, but I do like the spots this week. We begin with potentially teasing the Packers up to (+8.5). This seems like a no-brainer, as Green Bay dominated Detroit in Week 1.
The Pack does match up very well on paper with Detroit. However, this is a revenge spot, and betting favorites typically do pretty well in the televised Thanksgiving Day games.
We also have a high total. Maybe we back the Pack.
Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) at New York Jets (+2.5) Total: 39.5
We have a low total here. Why do I mention the total if we are teasing the point spread?
That's a great question. Our 6 points are a larger percentage of 40 points than 50. This is one of the main reasons we don't recommend teasing college football: we actually want the NFL's parity to work in our favor here.
Last week, we teased the Falcons and Pats and won our basic strategy teaser. This week, though, we might have to take the Jets at home.
New York Giants (+7.5) at New England Patriots (-7.5) Total: 46.5
Speaking of the Pats, here we are again with Drake Maye. He didn’t play well last week. I expect the kid to sharpen up by Sunday.
Much more importantly, however, the Giants showed their hand last week. They play hard, but they're tanking. This is a good reason not to be the Pats at (-7.5) and even more so to take them to essentially just win outright at only (-1.5).
Week 13 Basic Strategy Teaser Pick
New England Patriots (-1.5) and Green Bay Packers (+8.5): -120
The numbers and the spot may favor the Jets, but I avoid betting on bad teams whenever possible.
