2025 Los Angeles Chargers Season Win Total Picks

As we work our way through these power rankings there are several key recurring themes. One of them is that some players, coaches and franchises are winners. And some are losers.
Jim Harbaugh is a winner. He has been at ever stop of his football career. And he proved it yet again by taking a perpetually underachieving Los Angeles Chargers franchise, stripping it down to the studs, and then using football basics to force the Chargers to 11 wins and a playoff trip in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.
Harbaugh is now an elite 55-25-1 in his career as an NFL coach. And with another year to sculpt the roster in his own steel-jawed image the expectation is that the Chargers will be even tougher in Year 2.
However, I will admit that I am a bit skeptical about this squad. And if Harbaugh can duplicate his magic from last season against a much more difficult schedule then it would go down as one of the best pro coaching efforts of his illustrious career.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS 2025 OFFENSE
The Chargers had a basic approach last season. They figured that Justin Herbert was better than whomever their opponent’s quarterback was. So the goal was to take care of the ball, minimize turnovers and penalties, grind the game down, and let Herbert make the plays late in the game to win it.
The result was Herbert’s lowest number of attempts per game, his lowest average yards per game, and the highest passer rating of his career.
Los Angeles was just No. 20 in total offense last year, finishing outside the top half of the league in passing and rushing. But they committed just nine turnovers, second to Buffalo for the fewest in football, and were efficient enough to average 23.6 points per game.
The offensive line is very much a strength for this unit. Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt may be the best pair of tackles in football and free agents Mekhi Becton and Andre James were added for depth and experience.
The Chargers are desperate for 2023 first round pick Quentin Johnston to progress and become a No. 1 receiver. Ladd McConkey proved to be a menace, catching 82 balls for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns. However, if anything happens to the minute McConkey then the Chargers passing game could splinter.
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS 2025 DEFENSE
Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter did their best work on the defensive side of the ball. The Chargers had finished between No. 20 and No. 29 in both total defense and scoring defense in three straight years before Harbaugh and Minter arrived.
The duo turned the Chargers into the No. 1 scoring defense in football last year. The Chargers were No. 11 in total defense and No. 7 against the pass.
Los Angeles played great situational defense last year. They were No. 4 in the league on third downs and No. 2 in red zone defense, allowing touchdowns on just 45.5 percent of their opponents’ drives inside the 20. That is the mark of a well-coached, well-prepared team.
Los Angeles will have six new starters on this side of the ball, though. They have gone younger and cheaper on defense and will need several players that were backups on last year’s team to step up as first teamers.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS 2025 SEASON PICKS AND PREDICTIONS
The Chargers were not a very good team last year. They executed well. They found ways to win. But Los Angeles was mainly the beneficiary of a cupcake schedule. The Chargers only beat one team – the Broncos, twice – that went to the playoffs. They lost their other six games against playoff competition by an average of 11.5 points.
There are a slew of other numbers suggesting that the Chargers will come back to earth this year as well.
Los Angeles was +12 in turnovers and both their OYPP (13.9) and their DYPP (17.8) are unsustainable moving forward.
Also, the Chargers are a historically fickle franchise. Since 1996 they have only made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons one time, and that was the halcyon days of 2006-2009.
The Chargers are just 1-3 against their Las Vegas season win total in the last four seasons after a tip to the postseason, including ugly five-win seasons in 2019 and 2023 after playoff berths. Los Angeles is just 4-11 against its Vegas win total over the last 15 years and 1-5 against it over the last six seasons.
Then again, they didn’t have Harbaugh.
And even though I respect the hell out of him as a coach and a winner I still think the Chargers were a bit of a mirage last season. I also think their late-season schedule is a bit of a bear. If the Chargers get off to a sluggish start – with trips to Brazil, Las Vegas, New York and Miami all coming early – I think they are going to struggle to hit double-digits.
I’ll play the ‘under’.
