The Buffalo Bills were forced to watch their division rival Patriots take over the AFC last year, and it is once again expected to be a two-horse race in the AFC East. Josh Allen is unquestionably a top-three quarterback in the league, and arguably the cream of the crop, which will always give the Bills a real shot at the Super Bowl. After decades of disappointment, will this be the year Buffalo can finally get over the line?

A healthy Josh Allen means that the Super Bowl trophy is the expectation for the Bills. Buffalo has had a tough road after losing four straight Super Bowls in the 90s, and they will be hoping their offseason moves will finally snap that curse.

It started with the head coach. After nearly a decade in Buffalo, Sean McDermott was shown the door after being unable to turn Josh Allen’s talent into tangible results. A string of seven straight playoff appearances was not enough without an AFC championship, allowing the Bills to promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach. Brady is familiar with the system in Buffalo, and his hiring should allow the Bills to build on their growing momentum from the last half-decade. Brady is certainly a modern head coach who focuses on relationships and analytics, and it is never a bad idea to go for it with the ball in Allen's hands.

The Bills' biggest offseason move in terms of players was the signing of Bradley Chubb from the Miami Dolphins. Chubb has racked up 19.5 sacks in the last two seasons despite being a part of an abysmal pass rush in Miami. His addition to the Bills' defensive line will instantly upgrade this unit, which already has Greg Rousseau leading the charge. Elsewhere on defense, the Bills' secondary got a shake-up after losing veteran nickel Taron Johnson. Johnson has been a big part of the Bills' identity, but his replacement is another leader in CJ Gardner-Johnson. The former Eagles defensive back knows how to rally up a defense, and he will have a big hole to fill this season.

On offense, the Bills mixed things up at receiver by trading for DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. Moore made countless big plays for Caleb Williams last season, and the Bills front office will be hoping his clutch performances will be the difference this year. Curtis Samuel was shown the door to make room for Moore, but the Bills still have a solid receiving room with Khalil Shakir and Joshua Palmer filling in.

2026 Buffalo Bills Season Expectations

The Bills will no longer be satisfied with a strong regular season followed by an early playoff exit. After being ousted by the Chiefs in four of the last five seasons, the Bills finally had their chance last year in a wide-open AFC. However, an overtime collapse against the Broncos had the Bills sent home early once again.

This year, the Bills are once again favorites to win the AFC East, and are co-favorites alongside the Ravens to win the AFC. Their roster is far from the strongest in the league, but what Josh Allen brings to the table is hard to quantify. Allen’s ability to make big plays from the pocket, scrambling to the side if it collapses, then tuck and truck defenders if things go south is a unique combination even in the modern-day NFL. The Bills will always have a chance with Allen, and it has always felt like a matter of time before he finally gets his Super Bowl ring.

If the Bills want eight straight seasons with a double-digit win total, it will start on the defensive side of the ball. Allen is a reliable source for 25+ points on offense each week, but that doesn’t matter if they can’t get stops. They were an average unit last year, but collapsed down the stretch due to a long list of injuries. Injuries are natural in the NFL, but the Bills will feel hard done by with how many key contributors they lost. A strong pass rush with Chubb anchoring the middle of the field will not make things easy for their opposition, and their revamped secondary shouldn’t give up an inch. It’s hard to say for certain the Bills got better in the offseason, but they certainly didn’t get worse.

2026 Buffalo Bills Schedule Breakdown

The Bills have the eighth hardest schedule based on last year’s win percentages, but many of their opponents are expected to be worse this season, which actually gives them a top-half schedule in terms of projected win totals.

In terms of timing, the Bills' ceiling will be determined early as they have a brutal start to the season. After opening the year against the Texans, Buffalo takes on the Lions, Chargers, Patriots, and Rams over the next month. All five teams are expected to not only make the playoffs, but are top-ten in Super Bowl odds.

It gets easier after that with a soft AFC East, as Buffalo will expect to sweep both the Dolphins and Jets. They close out the year with two divisional games against the aforementioned teams, which could allow them to make up for a potentially slow start in September.

The Buffalo Bills have the second-best Super Bowl odds at +1000, and are the favorites to win the AFC (+450) heading into the year. The Bills will already be planning their postseason path, but they can’t take the regular season for granted in a deep AFC.

The Bills' regular season win total is set at 10.5 wins, and they have -130 odds to claim the AFC East crown. Buffalo had their lengthy division win streak snapped by the eventual AFC champions (New England) last season, but will look to claim home playoff games this year. They are -375 to make the playoffs, the shortest in the NFL, but anything can happen over the course of a grueling regular season.

It is always hard to fade the Bills with Josh Allen at the helm, and we can’t do it this year even with a less-than-ideal rest of the roster. Their 10.5 win total has been eclipsed in six straight seasons for Buffalo, and they look poised to do so again this year. Based on last year, the Bills have a tough schedule that has turned bettors away from tailing their regular season props. However, the projected win totals for this year are far more relevant than last year’s totals, which means the Bills are slightly undervalued at 10.5 wins. Give me the over, and I don’t mind a sprinkle on the Bills division at -130, since I have them going 12-5. It will probably take at least 11 wins to claim the crown, and there could be a Super Bowl hangover for the Patriots. A shorter offseason full of disappointment is a tough pill to swallow, and the Patriots still have plenty to prove after one of the worst schedules in the league last season. It’s all about value when looking for season-long futures, and the undervalued Bills that could benefit from betting fatigue are the play over the popular Patriots.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me countless times with the Bills, I’m not sure who to blame. The AFC is deep with several contenders, but no other team has a difference maker like Josh Allen. Allen has stepped up in the clutch whenever the Bills need him, and a different story on defense could have seen Buffalo go to the Super Bowl last year. They have made crafty veteran additions to add on to a strong draft, which will be enough to make another deep run. I am not sure if they will reach the ultimate goal, but an appearance in the AFC championship game feels like the floor for this team. The +450 odds on winning the AFC have lots of value, and will still give us a potential hedging opportunity if we need to pivot in the playoffs.
