2026 New York Jets Predictions with Best Bets and Odds to Win the Super Bowl

The New York Jets haven’t made the playoffs in 15 straight seasons, and the future is just as grim. A reunion with 35-year-old Geno Smith is not going to suddenly raise their ceiling, but some crafty offseason moves could see them challenge for a playoff spot. Can the Jets break the longest active playoff drought in the league, or will it be yet another season of misery in New York?

New York Jets Offseason Recap

The Jets have gone 15 years without a playoff berth, 10 years without a winning record, and put up a disastrous 3-14 record last season. The offseason gave them a chance to change things up, and they did exactly that with a very active summer.

At quarterback, they moved on from both Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields, bringing in Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik. Smith is rejoining the Jets after New York drafted him back in 2013, and is expected to be the starter for most of the season. He isn’t getting any younger, but Smith is serviceable at quarterback and can be a guiding hand for rookie Klubnik and the roster as a whole. Smith has thrown 90 touchdowns and 52 interceptions across the last four seasons, as the high-risk, high-reward gunslinger certainly adds entertainment value to this team. He is an upgrade over both Taylor and Fields, but far from the long-term answer for New York at quarterback. The Jets also drafted Cade Klubnik with the 110th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, trading up to get him. Klubnik will start behind Smith to begin the season, and only the Jets know his timeline for taking the field. Klubnik has the quick release needed to thrive in the NFL, but size concerns limit his upside in New York.

Elsewhere in the draft, the Jets had three first-round picks to play with. They took David Bailey with the second overall selection to kick things off, before taking a pair of skill position players in Kenyon Sadiq at 16th and Omar Cooper Jr. at 30th overall. Bailey will make an immediate impact on this defensive front, which struggled to generate pressure last year. The Jets had ZERO interceptions last season, the first time in NFL history that had happened, as they rarely made the opponent uncomfortable in the pocket. Bailey has an explosive first step, a 4.5-second 40-yard time, and led the nation in both sacks (14.5) and tackles for loss (19.5) last year in college. Bailey may be the answer the Jets have been looking for, as one truly dominant defender can revitalize the entire unit.

The Jets weren’t done there on defense, far from it. New York beefed up their secondary with moves for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and help at corner from Nahshon Wright. The Jets had to give up a seventh-round pick for Fitzpatrick, but that is a small price to pay for a player with his impact both on and off the field. Fitzpatrick should be able to help the secondary generate a turnover or two, while the change up front will speed up opposing quarterbacks. T’Vondre Sweat, acquired from the Titans, will start at defensive tackle, while Demario Davis will bring the heat from linebacker. Davis was the engine of the Saints defense for nearly a decade, and will make an immediate impact in the middle of the field.

The Jets also got two new pass catchers in Sadiq and Cooper Jr. Sadiq will likely split snaps at tight end behind Mason Taylor, but head coach Aaron Glenn will not hesitate to run two tight end sets if both men are needed. At receiver, Cooper Jr. will eventually slot in as WR2 behind Garrett Wilson, or at the very least emerge as a high-end WR3. Cooper Jr. can line up in the slot or on the perimeter, and is the kind of receiver who can make big plays after the catch. The Jets offensive line is not the best, so getting the ball out of Smith’s hands and into Cooper Jr.’s will be essential.

2026 New York Jets Season Expectations

Maybe a playoff berth? The Jets fanbase has been so starved of success that there is no reason to get too excited about the new season. The expectations are once again low as the extended New York rebuild drags on, but there are still some positives with this roster.

Geno Smith represents a real upgrade at quarterback; both Breece Hall and Wilson are locked up as the two best skill position players, while the Jets defense still has room for improvement. On offense, the Jets don’t have any players destined for the Pro Bowl, but their primary positions are taken care of. They drafted well with their early picks and got some depth for the offensive line, taking some of the pressure off their starters.

On defense, the Jets were in the bottom-ten in most of the major stat categories, but things should change this year. Some of it can be attributed to bad luck, some of it to poor play, but the Jets will absolutely get more interceptions than they did last year. A few more generated turnovers will immediately spike their defensive numbers, and a more coherent offense will give them more of a break. New York was aggressive in free agency, the trade market, and the draft in getting high-end defenders. This unit should be better on both sides of the ball this year, and it is truly miraculous they even put up the three wins they did last year with a -19 turnover differential. When that levels out, the Jets will suddenly start winning games more often.

2026 New York Jets Schedule Breakdown

Being in a division with the Bills and Patriots has not been easy on the Jets' schedule over the last few years, but there is some relief this year. The Dolphins are expected to be one of the worst teams in the league, and the Jets have the fifth-easiest schedule based on the projected 2026 win totals. They have to go through the AFC West and the NFC North in addition to their divisional opponents, while their three extra games for coming in last are against the Cardinals, Browns, and Titans. They open up the year with three of their first four on the road and against tough NFC North opponents, but a late bye week combined with a soft middle portion could see New York still in playoff contention before they close out the year against the Patriots, Vikings, and Bills.

2026 New York Jets Betting Odds

This is where things get interesting. The Jets have been one of the most active teams in the offseason, retooling both sides of the ball; they had three first-round picks in the NFL draft and have a very easy schedule this year. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, but a win total of 5.5 feels a tad low. The Jets' long playoff drought hasn’t been fun for fans, but they have cleared six or more victories in seven of the last 15 seasons, not counting a pair of 5-11 finishes when there was one less game. The Jets are nearly a coin flip on the road against the Titans in Week 1, showing that the oddsmakers are giving them some respect even away from home.

Zooming out, the Jets have +700 odds to make the playoffs and +1700 odds to win the AFC East. The oddsmakers aren’t giving them much of a chance of playing meaningful late-season football, and there isn’t even a point in mentioning their +35000 Super Bowl odds. On the other end of the spectrum, the Jets have +600 odds to finish with the worst regular-season record, the fourth-shortest in the league.

Looking at individual awards, the Jets have a couple of contenders. David Bailey is the second-favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at +500 odds after leading the country in sacks last season. The only other member of the team with a real shot at silverware is Aaron Glenn at +2500 for Coach of the Year, which would probably require the Jets to at the very minimum snap their playoff drought.

2026 New York Jets Season Predictions and Best Bets

This one may age poorly, and I mean incredibly poorly, but I am pretty high on the Jets this year. Their 5.5 win total puts them in the neighborhood of the Browns and Raiders this season, and I think New York is better than both of those units. The three instant stars they drafted cannot be overlooked, nor can the upgrade at quarterback and the pair of defensive cornerstones added to their roster. New York got incredibly unlucky with turnovers on offense and their complete lack of defensive turnovers, and that should allow them to naturally win a few more games. They also had three losses last year by exactly two points, so a little bit more positive regression won’t hurt. A win total of 5.5 is looking at previous Jets failures rather than the roster they have developed heading into 2026.

For the second pick, we will hunt for some plus money. This could be my favorite pick in the entire NFL, and that is for the Jets to finish exactly third in the AFC East at +100 odds. It is clear that the Patriots and Bills are better than New York, and the biggest threat to third place would be the basement-dwelling Dolphins. However, I think the Jets are far better than Miami on paper, and the Dolphins have the second-hardest schedule while the Jets have the fifth-easiest. You won’t find a better plus-money pick across any of my 32 NFL articles than the Jets to scrape into third in the AFC East. Despite the odds, I am almost more worried about Drake Maye or Josh Allen getting hurt and the Jets leaping up to second than falling to fourth.

Finally, we have to throw a dart. I went back and forth on what longshot is best to tail but landed on the Jets to earn a Wild Card berth at +1200. We could take their +700 playoff odds, but I see no reason not to get greedy, as they are big longshots to win the division. The Jets probably need 9 or 10 wins to claim a Wild Card spot, and while that is unlikely, the +1200 odds are disrespectful. If New York can pull off an upset or two in the early stages, they just may be able to rack up wins in the middle of the year. While calling for the Jets to snap their 15-year playoff drought is bold, we are in the business of fearlessly looking for EV, and I just love these odds.
