While this wasn’t the typical dominating Bulldogs team we have witnessed in recent years, they were still one of the best teams in the nation. They opened the season with a 38-point victory against #8 Baylor and then proceeded to win their next four games.

The Michigan State Spartans re-emerged as a Big 10 powerhouse last season. They suffered some early nonconference losses to #1 Kansas and Memphis, but they picked up some solid wins against #12 UNC, Colorado, and FAU. They took some momentum from the end of their nonconference schedule into Big 10 play, opening the conference schedule by winning their first nine such games. They went 8-2 against Top 25 teams, including 7-1 against ranked Big 10 teams.

The Creighton Bluejays finished the regular season 22-9 overall and 15-5 in the Big East conference which was good enough for a second-place finish, behind just St. John’s. They began the season with a four-game winning streak before a cold streak hit at the end of November. They lost three straight games against Nebraska, San Diego State, and #20 Texas A&M by an average of 11 points. However, they responded by knocking off the #1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
