Expert NFL Betting Picks: Weekly NFC East Predictions Week 15
by Dave Schwab - 12/10/2014
This past week I went with "over" 45.5 in the New York vs. Tennessee game as my NFC East 'pick of the week,' and for the second time in a row I ended up on the wrong side of the total line in a Giants' game. My year-to-date record for these NFC East free picks now stands at 8-6 while in the midst of a three-game slide.
Each and every week of this year's NFL regular season I continue to preview all the games in the NFC East. I will also release my free "pick of the week"with the use of Doc's Sports Unit Betting System and NFL betting odds as provided by BetOnline. My ultimate goal throughout the season has been to provide a solid return with my free weekly picks. Through the first 14 weeks, I have generated an overall return of $490 for any $100 bettor that has been following the recommended unit play.
Washington Redskins at New York Giants (Sunday, Dec. 14, 1 p.m.)
The Redskins come into the undercard of this week's NFC East double-header a team in complete turmoil. After last Sunday's 24-0 shutout at the hands of St. Louis as a 2.5-point home underdog, Washington is now just 3-10 straight up on the year with a costly 4-9 record against the spread. It has now failed to cover in four of its last five games, and the total has stayed "under" in five of its last seven outings. It is obvious that it really does not matter if Robert Griffin III or Colt McCoy is running the show at quarterback given just how bad this offense has played this year.
New York was able to snap a painfully long seven-game losing streak with last Sunday's lopsided 36-7 victory against Tennessee as a 2.5-point road favorite. This was just the second time the Giants covered ATS in their last eight games, and they are currently 4-9 SU on the year with a 5-8 record ATS. The total has stayed under in eight of the 13 games. I still do not think that head coach Tom Coughlin can save his job even if New York wins its last three games, but you can count on this team still playing hard each and every week.
BetOnline has listed New York as a seven-point home favorite over the Redskins, and the betting odds on the total have been set at 47.
NFC East Week 15 'Pick of the Week'
Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Sunday, Dec.14, 8:30 p.m.)
The 9-4 Cowboys come into Round 2 of this year's season series against their bitter rivals fresh off an encouraging 41-28 rout of Chicago last Thursday as 3.5-point road favorites. The biggest take away from that game was the return to form of running back DeMarco Murray. After being held to just 73 yards in the Thanksgiving Day loss to Philadelphia, he exploded for 179 yards on the ground and another 49 yards on nine receptions in the win over the Bears. Tony Romo completed 21-of-26 attempts for 205 yards and three scores in that game. This mix was a perfect example of the winning formula that led to this team's SU 6-1 start. The Cowboys are now 7-6 ATS with a profitable 5-1 record ATS on the road this year.
Philadelphia once again proved that it is still a step below the upper echelon on the NFC in last Sunday's 24-14 loss to Seattle as a 1.5-point home underdog. The 9-4 (both SU and ATS) Eagles have done a great job beating the teams they were supposed to with a 6-1 mark ATS as favorites, so you would have to like their chances to cover this Sunday as three-point favorites at home. They are going to have to take control of this game early to pull off the sweep just like they did in the first meeting. Last week, Mark Sanchez looked like the quarterback that got run out of town with the Jets, and if Philadelphia does not get another monster effort from LeSean McCoy running the ball, they will probably lose this time around.
I am going with a total line pick in this game with the current betting odds set at 55. While the line suggests that this game is going to turn into a shootout, the total has actually stayed under in four of the last five meetings in Philly. While weather should not be a factor on Sunday, two teams determined to control this game on the ground will. This showdown actually turns into an old-fashioned NFC East slugfest that stays well "under" this inflated betting line in my biggest play of the year.
6-Unit Play: Dallas at Philadelphia UNDER 55
Year to Date Record: 8-6 (+$490)
