NFL Teasers Betting: Best Basic Strategy Options for Week 2
by George Monroy - 9/10/2014
Every week throughout the 2014 NFL football season Doc's Sports will analyze every basic strategy teaser bet on the board and provide bettors with the best options to bet on during the week. The wager is a two-team, six-point teaser that moves favorites of 7.5 to 8.5 points down and underdogs of 1.5 to 2.5 points up and is supposed to be a positive, expected-value play.
For Week 2, there are four basic strategy teaser games on the board, with the options being split between two favorites being moved under three points and two underdogs being moved passed seven points. Last week basic strategy teasers went 4-1 and would have given bettors who wagered on them a solid win for the week. Let's take a closer look at this week's games and figure out which have the best value to wager on. All lines come from BookMaker.
Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers
Spread : 49ers -7.5
Six-point teaser : 49ers -1.5
Seattle opened the NFL season with a dominant performance on Thursday night and reaffirmed why they are the best team in the league. San Francisco may have taken offense to that and put on an even more impressive performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. San Francisco was dominant in very area and may have asserted itself as the team to beat in the NFC West.
Chicago, on the other hand, was its normal, underachieving self last week with a disappointing loss against Buffalo. This is a matchup that San Francisco should win, and there is no reason to suspect otherwise. Getting the team at minus 1.5 points is the strongest teaser on the board.
New York Jets at Green Bay Packers
Spread : Packers -8.5
Six-point teaser : Packers -2.5
Green Bay had its moments against Seattle during Week 1-particularly in the first quarter-and a loss to the defending Super Bowl Champions is nothing to be ashamed of. New York does not have the defense that Seattle does or the offense to keep up with a high-scoring Packers squad.
The Jets looked decent during their Week 1 win against Oakland with Geno Smith playing well and throwing for 221 passing yards on 23-28 completions. New York may be a better team than most people expect, and Green Bay may be a worse team, but teasing the line down to 2.5 points on the Packers side feels like a great spot. The Jets could very well cover the original 8.5, but they will struggle to stay within a field goal on the road.
Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers
Spread : Lions +2.5
Six-point teaser : Lions +8.5
Every year is supposed to be the year when Detroit finally puts all its talent together and unleashes a monster led by Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Yet, every year the team limps to a 9-7 record and misses out on the playoffs. Now, it is far too early to predict whether or not Detroit is a legitimate playoff threat, but what we do know is that the team looked awfully good during their "Monday Night Football" blowout over the New York Giants.
Johnson was nothing but dominant, and Stafford had that old-school-gunslinger mentality-getting the Lions plus 8.5 points on a teaser feels like a steal. However, the biggest reason why Detroit should be able to cover this spread is because of Cam Newton's rib injury. The quarterback may not play on Sunday, and even if he does, he might be underprepared.
Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants
Spread : Giants +2
Six-point teaser : Giants +8
Neither of these teams looked good during the first week of the season. Arizona was able to get a solid win over the San Diego Chargers but struggled on offense for most of the game and looked lost at times. New York, on the other hand, may be in for another horrendous season. The team was able to produce only 14 points and 197 yards of total offense on Monday night.
New York has lived off of a reputation of underachieving then turning things around toward the end of the season, but this year the team may not be underachieving because the talent is simply not there. Receiving eight points at home is never a horrible situation to be in, but New York could be in for a tough year. This feels like the weakest teaser on the board.
Overall record : 4-1; Last Week: 4-1
