NFL Betting Predictions: Week 5 Opening Line Report and Picks
This past week in the NFL was fun to watch as we got to see a lot of exciting matchups. There were many teams put to the test -- some prevailed and some failed. Some important takeaways from this past week are:
- The Packers looked horrible against a not-so-great Patriots Team.
- The Cowboys look just as good without Dak Prescott.
- The Raiders got their first win
- The Chiefs offense was able to show up after a bad ending to September
- The Dolphins lost their QB1 to a horrific on-field incident
- The Falcons beat the Browns, proving that they’re a better team than most think
That wraps up the key takeaways that I wanted to point on for this past weekend. From a betting standpoint, I will keep those things in mind when making picks for this upcoming week. However, it’s Monday today, and we have to start targeting the markets right away. So, let’s get started.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Here down below we have the picks for Week 5 that you need to make now before the market adjusts. Don’t wait as the market can become volatile as more people wait until the end of the week to start placing their bets, and that will push lines up and down. The picks below will highlight some of the best values in the current market.
Game 1: Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets
Opening Line: Miami Dolphins -2.5, O/U 38
This is my favorite pick of the week. There is a lot of speculation about what will happen because of the situation with Tua Tagovailoa. He suffered a severe head injury on Thursday Night Football. I’m a believer in Teddy Bridgewater as he almost pulled a win against the Bengals last week. The Jets are not a very good team defensively, as they allowed a weak Steelers offense to score 20 points. Any other offense would’ve brought the house down on the Jets. The Dolphins are a strong offensive team with a solid defense. They are legit Super Bowl contenders, and they also have one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. Let’s take the Dolphins spread this week as they enter favored by less than a field goal due to Tagovailoa being out with an injury.
Pick: Miami Dolphins -2.5 (-110)
Game 2: Tennessee Titans vs Washington Commanders
Opening Line: Tennessee Titans PK, O/U 43
This game has a line that is going to be very profitable. The Titans have come a long way since Week 1. The Commanders have taken a turn I didn’t expect from them with Carson Wentz in the Lineup. The Commanders have struggled as of late, losing their last two games by more than two touchdowns. The defense is weak. And with Chase Young not playing, don’t expect them to have a better week. The Titans are a great team when they have the lead, as they can give the ball to the most dominating power RB in the NFL. The Titans are going to strike fast and get on top. Wentz is a mess playing from behind and has totaled five interceptions in the past four weeks, so I don’t know how comfortable Ron Rivera will be running a heavy passing scheme. As of right now, the Public has placed 98% of the money and 84% of the bets on the Titans. I will back the public on this one as I expect the Titans to dominate in this game. The current spread is at -2.5, so let’s take this line as it’s very delightful to get this type of value on the market.
Pick: Tennessee Titans -2.5 (-110)
Game 3: Dallas Cowboys vs Los Angeles Rams
Opening Line: Los Angeles Rams -5.5, O/U 45.5
The Cowboys have been on a roll, winning three straight games since they lost Dak Prescott. This offense hasn’t skipped a beat. Cooper Rush is running the offense as if he was the No. 1 QB on the depth chart. He is getting everyone involved and is moving the ball down the field efficiently. He is doing the small things right, and it’s allowing this team to excel. For this upcoming weekend, the Cowboys are heading to the West Coast to play the Rams. The Rams, are a shell of the team they used to be last year when they won the Super Bowl. However, they’re still a good team. The current line of -5.5 favoring the Rams is a reflection of the Rams having won two games in which they played two of the worsts teams in the NFL. The Cowboys are a solid team, and they are being given too many points. It’s important you take this line now, before the Monday Night Football game for the Rams, just in case the 49ers run through the Rams and the market adjusts. I love the Cowboys in this spot as they will have an extra day’s rest heading into this matchup. The public has placed 96% of the money on the Cowboys. I will also be taking the Cowboys this weekend as the value is too good to pass up.
Pick: Cowboys +5.5 (-110) or better
