I’m sure you’ve heard it several times already, because I know I have, but it is truly hard to grasp that we’re already within Week 16 of the 2025 NFL regular season. Hey, we’re off to a heck of a start after Thursday Night Football.

I thought the Rams were rolling right along until Matt Stafford took a helmet to what appeared to be the breadbasket. However, that’s about the time his accuracy started to wane a bit. I think it was a bruised rib or intercostal muscle.

He seemed to be favoring his throwing side ever so slightly. I bring this up because it’s a great example, and this whole game was about how many random things can happen in just one NFL game.

Playing point spreads in the NFL, to me, is one of the hardest bets to consistently win over time. I understand some of you guys are just looking for some action, and that’s cool. However, what if I told you there was a way to get your gameday action and actually let the betting market work for you instead of against you?

This time of year, things can get really tricky with who is playing for their coach and who isn’t, along with who is playing for a potential spot in the postseason, and, of course, teams like the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants, who play this weekend but are each eliminated from playoff contention.

What is a Teaser?

A teaser is a particular type of parlay wager in which the bettor can manipulate the odds in their favor. The sportsbooks obviously tone down the payout, but that’s life. For example, you can add 4 points or even 10 or 12 at some sportsbooks.

From there, you can add just about as many legs to your teaser as you please, just like on a regular parlay bet.

As you might imagine, this can be overwhelming, and before you know it, you’re living in an octopus’s garden with 8 legs, and you’re having to change your colors faster than you can click the remote control.

What you need is a basic strategy.

What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?

The basic strategy is simple and as conservative as possible. We stick to only two-leg teasers, and we’re going to use 6 points. We take those 6 points not only to, but through the key numbers of 3, 6, and 7.

What I mean by key number is one of the most likely margins of victory. The key number of 3 is the most common point differential in an NFL game, followed by 6 and 7. Six-seven!

If we want to tease an underdog up, we look for teams with odds of (+1.5) to (+2.5) and, after giving them 6 points, we have them above a touchdown at (+7.5) to (+8.5).

For betting favorites, we simply do the inverse and take the teams with odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5) down under a field goal to (-1.5) to (-2.5).

Potential Week 16 NFL Teaser Games

Green Bay Packers (+1.5) at Chicago Bears (-1.5) Total: 46.5

The Green Bay Packers come into Chicago in windy weather with a surprisingly moderately high total, in my opinion. We want games with lower totals because our 6 points go further, but I would tease Green Bay here up to (+7.5) if the total was 55+.

Minnesota Vikings (-2.5) at New York Giants (+2.5) Total: 43.5

We do have a lower total here, but we mentioned these two earlier. They’re both eliminated from contention, and they aren’t in the same division. There will be some know-it-all on the internet who makes one of these sides their best bet.

Even taking the home Giants up to (+8.5), I want nothing to do with this game.

Los Angeles Chargers (+2) at Dallas Cowboys (-2) Total: 49.5

Okay, to take the Chargers in this spot, we need to semi-fade the Dallas Cowboys at home. The total isn’t low, but LA still has a blistering defense. Dallas is lights out at home, but I like the back end of the Chargers’ defense to keep this game within one score.
