Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 17: Basic Strategy Teasers

With the 2025 NFL season winding down, strong betting spots are becoming harder and harder to come by. That being said, here at Doc’s Sports, we’ve won 8 teasers in a row, using a simple basic strategy. If you’ve been tailing said bets, with the cajones to make the play, then you’re up money.
If not, and you listen to a few handicappers at some unnamed rival websites, then just fade us because “Regression”.
I’ll take the high road and not name any names, but this guy tried tofurther his name in MMA betting. And like many of the fighters he picked, fell flat on his face, but I digress.
Sports betting isn’t easy and simply working won’t save you. This isn’t chopping wood. I wish it was sometimes. I could clear my head with work instead of cloud it, but I wouldn’t trade this job for anything.
It’s an honor and a privilege to wear this jersey. Every week presents a unique challenge, different from the last. For these reasons, it can be hard to consistently win while betting point spreads.
The thought that any one of us, regardless of how many hours of efficient work we put into this, are just that much smarter than the majority of the betting market week after week is ludicrous.
There’s nothing wrong with playing sides and totals. We have a highly qualified, dedicated team of professionals that work around the clock sometimes to get you the best betting picks possible.
However, how can one man or woman consistently be smarter than the entire betting market made up of thousands of experts and millions of other fans/bettors? It isn’t logical. What is logical is betting teasers.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay wager that allows the bettor to manipulate the betting odds in their favor. Sounds great, right? Well, of course, the sportsbooks take this opportunity to make you pay a premium for it.
That’s not even the biggest deceiver with these bets, though. Where the sportsbooks get you is when they play your greed against you, especially when you don’t even realize it’s your greed talking to you.
Don’t get offended, though. To quote the GOAT Anderson Silva, “Thees ees normal”.
If you want to win in betting or simply in life, you don’t play their games. You rise above them.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
Since you have the option to tease a small to large amount of points as well as 2 legs on up until who knows how many, it’s easy to get carried away and quickly lost. That’s why we need a basic strategy.
Fear no longer. A man with the code name Stanford Wong came along and provided us with a basic logical strategy to bet teasers. I went to a state school, and this guy went to Stanford, but the strategy he developed isn’t exactly the science of rocketry.
We use a 6-point teaser, and if you're new to sharp sports betting, sticking to only two legs on a parlay bet shouldn’t be anything new to you.
From there, the basic concept is to tease through the key numbers of 3, 6, and 7. Most games will end with these margins of victory. It’s really that simple.
To do this, we look for betting favorites of (-7.5) to (-8.5), and we tease them down to (-1.5) to (-2.5). This takes us through not just to the key numbers we spoke of.
If we want to tease an underdog up, we just do the opposite. Take a small dog of (+1.5) to (+2.5), and after the 6 points, we have them above a touchdown at (+7.5) to (+8.5).
Potential Week 17 NFL Teaser Games
Detroit Lions (-7.5) at Minnesota Vikings (+7.5) Total: 43
For our first potential teaser leg, we target the Detroit Lions. We can take them down to (-1.5) here. Yes, they have “more” to play for because the Vikings are eliminated from the playoffs, but this is a division game.
Betting a favorite, even at just (-1.5), carries risk as the teams know each other so well.
Houston Texans (+2) at Los Angeles Chargers (-2) Total: 39.5
This is a road game for Texans’ QB C.J. Stroud, and that’s all that is holding me back in this spot. Otherwise, it seems like a perfect teaser leg.
Seattle Seahawks (-7.5) at Carolina Panthers (+7.5) Total: 42.5
Seattle is coming off a major win, an emotional victory over the Rams to take control of 1st place in the NFC West. However, it was on a Thursday, so they do have a few extra days to buffer said effect.
New Orleans Saints (-2.5) at Tennessee Titans (+2.5) Total: 39.5
We have a low total here, which is good because our 6 points are a higher percentage of the total, meaning the points count for more.
It’s still two bad teams in Week 17, who could be playing to lose.
Los Angeles Rams (-8) at Atlanta Falcons (+8) Total: 49.5
Oh man, so LA has to be mad after the Seattle loss, but, of course, they’ve had a couple of extra days to buffer.
I like Houston as one leg, and now it’s come down to the Seahawks or the Rams. LA is coming off the loss, which is good, but the total of 49.5 is high compared to the 42.5 for the Seahawks game.
Both are on the road. Neither are divisional games. I don’t think coming off a loss or a win matters much with this decision. Let’s fade the team with nothing to play for, and that’s the Falcons.
Pick: Houston Texans (+8) and Los Angeles Rams (-2)
