Guys, we nearly had a winner for you last week with South Africa’s Garrick Higgo at 22-1 betting odds. He shot an 11-under-par 61 on Saturday to take the lead. In the end, however, the tournament’s betting favorite at (+1000), American Ben Griffin, shot nine under on Sunday for the 29-under-par victory.

After a week off for the Halloween holiday, the PGA Tour magically reappears south of the border in Old Mexico for the World Wide Technology or WWT Championship, as it is known. This is the third time El Cardonal at Diamante has hosted this tournament. We are, of course, still in the FedEx Cup Fall or the Fall Swing, as they used to call it. Most of the golfers playing over the next month are those who need high placings or a win to secure their spot on the Tour in the future.

The first PGA Tour event of 2025, the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui, is in the books. Japan's Hideki Matsuyama broke the PGA Tour record for the lowest score in a 72-hole tournament with his tremendous 35 under-par performance at Kapalua. He broke Cameron Smith’s record of -34. Granted, that was just three years ago on the same course.

The FedEx Cup Fall wastes no time this week as we travel from Las Vegas all the way to Tokyo Bay. Yes, on the other side of the planet in Narashino, Japan, for the ZOZO Championship. There aren't just Asian golfers participating, either. Americans Xander Shauffele and Justin Thomas are in the field. California's Collin Morikawa is the defending champion at the ZOZO Championship. Japan's own and former winner here, Hideki Matsuyama, is playing his best golf of 2024 and will be in the field.

The first three tournaments of the FedEx Cup Fall didn't disappoint. I understand a big reason for that is the low expectations. There's a priceless life lesson for you, and we just got started. Ditch the expectations whenever possible. The previous three and subsequent five PGA Tour events make up the FedEx Cup Fall, and it's essentially an opportunity for the Tour to shift to a near complete year-round schedule. The biggest opportunities, however, will be for the golfers in the respective fields.
